"Aleka, Oh Aleka!" a voice shouted through the trees. I was ten again and I was running through the trees.
I ran around trees and served away from bushes and other shrubs in my way. Laughing, I jumped of a little trickling stream. I felt happy and free. Being young again, I started toiling my way towards a field.
I made my way through it dancing and twirling around and around. Small giggles would erupted from me as my hair would get in my eyes.
"Aleka, oh where could you be?" the voice sang again. Knowing who it was I crouched down to the ground where I couldn't be seen because I was surrounded by tall grass.
"You can't find me daddy," I yelled while still giggling where I was.
"Where are you, my little Defender?" he said calling out to the field laughing at my attempts to hide from him, in our game.
He calls me Defender because my name comes from the name Alexander, which means the defender of man. Yes the name is a boy name so my mom had him shorten it, so he changed it to Aleka. He wanted to name me After one of his friends that died with him during a battle. His friend had saved my dads life while his friend died. His friend's name was Alexander, so he would always call me Defender because he knew like my name sake, I would be the good in a dark time.
"Haha. you can't find me!" I shouted out to him again. CRECK! SNAP! I heard something off in the distance. It was towards the woods behind me.
"Defender mea , unde ai plecat ?" my father said off to the side of the field looking through the grass for me. He meant, 'My Defender, where are you?' He was from Romania, but he and my mother moved to Italy when I was two. He was always speaking to me in perfect Romanian since I was in a crib.
I ran and giggled as I ran to the other side of the forest. It was darker in there. He wouldn't be able to find me in here I thought to myself , smiling at my proudness for being able to out smart my dad.
I heard him calling but his voice got quieter and quieter with every step.
SNAP! I turned to hear a mans yell. being scared of it, I crouched down in the underbrush. my little white satin dress covered by the tall grass. The foot steps got closer and the voices were talking.
"Do you think he will finally come back?" said a gruff young voice.
"I would be damned if he does!" said another. "All he ever did was get mad at The Dark Lord since Marie's husband died a few years back. He ne'er been the same since!" yelled the voice.
"Do you think maybe, just maybe, he will actually listen." shouted the younger voice with a hint of worry.
"I reckon that he would spit in our faces if we popped up next to him." said the other voice. The voice were of two men, that I could tell. One was exceptionally younger than he other.
"But his family! He would risk their safety because he could agree with one simple command!" said the younger voice in shock. "And he said he was a man of family! The coward!" the young man cried to the trees that surrounded us. They were right next to the underbrush that I was hiding under. I was holding my breath when the older guy stepped right next to my hand. he stayed there for another five minutes before he moved and walked on towards a great oak.
"I don't think he is coming with us! There is his daughter that he is going to protect." said the younger one with frustration.
"Nonsense!"said the older one with a gruff voice, "if he wants his family safe then he wil do as the dark lord ask or they'll all die!"
