Chapter 3

After calling Violet 4 times in a row I had given up, and let myself slowly fade to sleep. My dreams were filled with terrible situations happening to Violet, her getting drugged, killed, you name it and I dreamt it.

When I woke up in the morning I felt a sense of wetness on my face realizing that my dreams last night had caused me to cry in my sleep. I wiped my tears off my face and get dressed.

I had figured that maybe Violet had gone home by now, and that maybe her phone was dead.

Once I was dressed in a pair of ripped jeans and a black Rebel 8 t-shirt, I made my way outside to my old shitty chevy. I hopped in the drivers seat and tried to start the engine. Nothing happened. I got out again making a huge huff noise, working my way to the front of the car, and hit it.

I tried starting the car again and it was a success. Once I backed out of my driveway I put in my Falling in Reverse CD and jammed to the song ‘ Just Like You’, the single from the album. When the words come on I started singing out loud

“ I am aware that I am an asshole!” I belted out with a smile on my face “ I really don’t care about all of that though”

After 10 minutes of playing the song on repeat I finally arrive at Violets house. I work my way to the front door and ring the bell, seconds later her mom comes and greets me.

“why hello Tao, nice to see you dear” she said kindly to me.

“Is your daughter here?” I ask abruptly looking over her shoulders into the house to see if I could catch a glimpse of Violets black hair.

She looked confused as if this were some kind of prank. “ Violet said she would be with you the next couple of days…”

Then it hit me. She’s gone, long gone. I knew this would happen someday but I never thought it would happen so early. Violet hated where she lived. Her mom was a stay at home mother and Violet always had little ADHD kids running around. Her dad was an alcoholic and would occasionally beat her, so I understand why she had hated it there.

I turn around and leave without answering any more of her mothers questions, I am surprised that she even cared at all.

Violet and her mom have the weirdest relationship ever. When Violet was 14 she got caught smoking pot in her room with her boyfriend at the time, Violet stood up and tried to explain but her mom punched her in the face before she could form any words. She got kicked out of the house and was living under a bridge for a few weeks until I had met her. I had offered her a room in my house one because we had the space and two because my parents are never home so I didn't think it would bother them.

After a few weeks of sleeping at my house her mother came over and threatened to call the cops on my family for “holding her daughter hostage” and took her away before I could do anything to keep her safe with me.

Now her mom acts like it never happened and that she was some kind of award winning mother ( the exact opposite of what she really is ).

I was panicking because Violet had always talked to me about how she was going to let me know when she would be leaving, and what happened to push her to the point where she actually felt the courage to leave? That was the scariest part of this disappearing act she was putting on.

I knew I couldn't go home, so I called my friend Victor. The phone rings 3 times before he finally picks up, for me the 3 rings felt like 20. I was so nervous and my anxiety was raising by the second.
