The Halstead's Sister *Discontinued*

Chapter 1

Date: Friday, August 20th

Ashley was on her way to The Gaffney Chicago Medical Center or for short she likes to just call it Chicago Med. It was only about a 10-minute walk from her high school so it wasn't too far of a walk. She was meeting Will so he could take her to his house since tonight she was going to stay at Will and Natalie's house to watch their 4-year-old son, Owen, while they go to some kind of dinner that raises money for the hospital. Ashley loved her cousin and spending time with him so she didn't mind.

Ashley walked through the huge doors that lead into the Emergency Department waiting room and found a seat to sit down. She never walks into the Emergency Department where Will works for a couple of reasons but one of those reasons her brothers don't even know. She pulls out her phone and texts Will that she was here and he texted back that he was almost done with his shift and would be out in a couple of minutes.

A couple of minutes pass and Will walks up to Ashley and says, "Hey Ash, how was school?"

"It was boring like always," She said and stood up from where she was sitting. Will nodded his head at her while grabbing her backpack. They both walked out of the hospital and towards Will's car.

At Will and Natalie's house

Will unlocks the door and Ashley walks in behind him. She goes and sits down on the couch while he walks towards the stairs.

"Nat is picking up Owen from daycare and they should be here in about 15 minutes. I am going upstairs to take a shower and get ready for tonight. You already know this but I am going to tell you again that you are welcome to get anything from the kitchen that you need," Will says looking at her.

"Thanks, Will," Ashley says back. He nods and goes upstairs. Ashley turns back around on the couch. She turns on Netflix and decides on watching Locke & Key while she waits.

About 15 minutes passed and Ashley hears someone open the door. Then she hears in a little kid's voice, "Is she here?" then a second of silence before little feet come running in. She immediately knows that it's Owen.

"Ashy," Owen screams, running right into Ashley's knees.

"Hey buddy, how was your day?" She asks him while lifting him into her lap.

"It was amazing. I got to play with legos and built a house for me, you, mommy, and Daddy to live in. It was so cool," He said very excitedly with a huge smile on his face.

"Aww, that's amazing, bud. I wish I could have seen it but I know it was a pretty amazing house," Ashley said to him in the same tone he had.

About an hour later both Will and Natalie came walking down the stairs all dressed up. They walked into the kitchen where Ashley and Owen were eating Mac and Cheese.

"Ash, are you sure you are ok with staying with Owen by yourself? You haven't actually stayed by yourself for more than an hour let alone watching Owen. I can see if I can get someone to come stay with you and him," Will said looking at her with a little bit of concern.

It wasn't that he didn't trust her staying by herself while watching Owen because he did trust her. He just wanted to make sure she felt safe and comfortable since he and Nat will be gone for at least 3 hours and Jay was working late on a case. Jay did, however, say that if she needed anything she could call him and he would try to answer her as soon as he could.

"Yes, I will be fine. If anything happens I can just call you or Jay. I am 14. I can take care of myself as well as watch Owen. Now go and have fun with your wife at whatever this dinner is for and stop worrying," Ashley said and pushed Will and Nat towards the front door.
