Smoke filled Ebony's lungs, as she struggled to keep her balance. Her eyes stung, too, though she was unsure whether that was from the smoke or her tears. She glanced up to see a figure running towards her, but never getting any closer. She squinted her eyes and was able to make out a boy with black hair and purple eyes, a boy that looked exactly like her. He wore the scared face of a cornered animal. Not at all like the cunning, ambitious thief, the old man had described him as.
The boy reached his hand towards his startled sister and desperately, "Help me! Please! Please, help me! Imposter! He's an imposter!" Ebony responded thoroughly spooked, "Who? Who's an imposter?!" The boy opened his mouth to reply, but his image suddenly flickered, then faded away.
Ebony looked around at the flames that had grown taller and hotter during her short conversation. She felt all her emotions filling her, like a balloon about to burst. Her happiness, love, anger, sadness, loneliness and everything else formed a knot in her heart. And suddenly that figurative balloon, wasn't quite so figurative. All the emotions inside her burst and somehow those flooding emotions caused an actual flood.
Ebony felt herself being swept away by a tsunami of her own creation. When the waters receded, she found that the water had carried them the rest of the way down their path and had deposited them on the sandy beach. Raegan and Moony sat beside each other about twenty feet away from Ebony.
She watched as the siblings stood up slowly. Moony was excited, which does make sense, after all and Raegan, lets just say he was astonished. Raegan helped Moony up and they hurried over to her. Raegan looked at her and all but screamed, "You just caused, like, a full on tsunami!" Moony started jumping up and down.
"What are we go to do now? Do we have a plan? Are we really going to Death Valley? I hope not! It sounds scary," Moony shouted. "Hey!" Raegan laughed, "Try not to ask questions quite so rapid fire." Moony shivered as her brother's mentioned fire, which is to be expected after such a close call.
Ebony sighed, "Well, if you're sure you're gonna come, follow me. Wait, uh, you know that weird super speed runny thing, um, could you maybe teach me how to do that? Like, now."
Raegan grinned, "Love the patience. I simply can't believe the level of control you have."
Moony rolled her eyes, "Since my brother is caught up with sarcasm, I can teach you. You picture the place you want to go and run as fast as you can while touching your fairy charm."
"What's a fairy charm?" Ebony asked, a little embarrassed that she knew nothing about her own species.
"A fairy charm is that little gem that Lem should've given you," Raegan jumped in, "Now, lets go to Death Val-."
"Actually, we're not going to Death Valley," Ebony cut in, "We're going to wherever the adult fairies are."
"We... I mean, no one goes to El Dorado until their of age. Besides, we don't know where it is," Raegan responded, shocked at Ebony's new confession.
"Wait... fairies live in El Dorado?! Like the City of Gold, El Dorado?!" Ebony asked. She watched as Raegan, who was still thoroughly confused, nodded
"Yeah, thats right. But why aren't we going to Death Valley?" Raegan replied.
"I don't know, really. It just feels...off, you know. Like, my gut tells me to find out for myself and I always follow my gut. Always," Ebony said as they walked towards the water.
Suddenly, Moony cried out. They turned around to find a figure in a dark cape running away, with Moony slung over their shoulder.
