Prompt: I Love You So by The Walters (part 2)
It had been a long month and a half since Hermione decided that it would be good for Y/N and her to breakup, when in fact, things for the both of them just got worse.
Hermione had always been on top of her studies. She never let her grades slip, and she always had her nose in a book, whether it be an assigned one or one she was reading for pleasure.
But for once, that wasn't true.
She hadn't picked up a book since she looked through the one Y/N annotated for her, and she had let her perfect O's disappear, now only earning marks she had always considering unsatisfactory. Everyone knew she wasn't okay.
Y/N on the other hand brought her grades up, she spent hours on top of hours studying and researching new things. She even had tried to learn some new spells she hadn't even had heard of before then.
She had a constant smile on her face whenever anyone would look at her. Y/N was doing okay.
But again, that wasn't true.
Maybe in public or with friends she was "okay", but as soon as she entered her dorm after classes, she broke down. It was the worst she had ever felt about anything in her life before. To her, things no longer made any sense.
They both were doing awful without each other, Y/N knew it, Hermione knew it, but neither of them could gather enough courage to fix things with each other.
That was until Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood decided to fix things for them. They were to concoct a simple plan, Ginny would tell Hermione to meet her at the astronomy tower for something, and Luna would do the same with Y/N. Then the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw would trap the both of them up there until they sorted it out.
An now it was time for the plan to actually take place. The girls knew what they were doing and they had a pretty good feeling it would work. Luna had gotten Y/N up to the astronomy tower first, telling the girl she would meet her in ten minutes.
That wasn't going to happen, though.
Around ten minutes later, Y/N heard footsteps coming up the stairs. She was laying on the ground with her eyes closed, waiting for Luna.
"Luna, finally, feels like it's been forever since you said to meet up here." She didn't realize it was in fact not Luna who she was speaking to.
"Y/N?"
Y/N's eyes shot open and she sat up. She took in Hermione, who still looked the same as before, but somehow different. There was a small glint of hope in her eyes that hadn't been there before.
"Hermione? I was supposed to be meeting Luna, I guess I'll just go-" Y/N started to stand up when Hermione stepped in front of her.
"I want to talk. You can find Luna later, I was supposed to meet Ginny up here anyways, so they probably planned this."
Y/N stood up and took a step away from Hermione after she realized how close their faces were. She cleared her throat. "Go on then, talk."
A moment of silence passed them.
"How are you so okay with everything right now? How aren't you falling apart."
"Who says I'm not?"
Hermione opened her mouth to speak but Y/N cut her off. "Who says I'm not falling apart right now? Who says that there's no thin ass string holding me together, keeping me from breaking down."
Again, silence filled the air, but instead it was kind of comfortable, like Y/N opening up was helping them both heal.
"How long have you felt like this, Y/N? Since... It happened?"
All Y/N could do was nod. She was afraid that if she tried to talk then she really would break down, and even though they weren't together anymore, she promised herself she'd be strong for Hermione.
Hermione hesitantly reached for Y/N's hand, gently brushing their fingers before Y/N made the final move and interlocked their hands. A small, genuine smile formed on both of their faces.
That was the final moment for Y/N where she felt like she needed to hide how she really felt. She immediately collapsed into Hermione's arms and finally let out her tears in front of someone else. No one said anything, but Hermione's gentle hums and her rubbing Y/N's back definitely helped the poor girl.
A couple minutes later Y/N picked her head up and looked at Hermione, who started right back at her with the same love and emotion they had experienced that month and a half ago. Hermione placed her hand on Y/N's face and cupped it.
Y/N bit her lip and slowly leant in, meeting Hermione's lips halfway. The sparks the two girls shared never left, and they both knew it. They both knew that they were each others happy endings.
