Just a Dream...

Jesse's POV

"I'll see you later Nell", I chuckled. Nell grinned and gave him a tight hug.

"Same Jesse, if you need any assistance on how to make a good time just call me", Nell replied casually, playfully punching my shoulder.

"Hey guys, look! Dance party! And there's Lukas, there he is!!", Jess squealed, running towards them.

"Jess, wait up!", Nikki called, her and Radar trailing behind them. I looked down at Nell awkwardly, and she looked back at me. We both decided to walk to the dance beach party together. Nell suddenly took my hand. I was so surprised, I could feel my face turning a small hint of red, but I didn't dare to say anything. I just wanted to get Petra out of my head..

I then took her other hand, giving her a reassuring smile.

"Jesse? What.. are you doing?", Nell asked, surprised by my actions.

"We're at a dance party, aren't we?", I playfully scoffed.

"But I've never done— slow dancing before!", she protested.

"You'll be fine, just follow my lead"

She took my word for it and we both began to dance on the dance floor together. I felt her laying her head on my chest, but I simply allowed her, closing my eyes and holding her close. I finally felt Petra slip out of my mind, forgetting the jealousy and the pain I've felt all these months. Besides, she's got Jack anyways. I still care about her, but I care about Nell too.. it just feels nice to finally get the chance to relax myself, away from the painful memories..

After dancing, the sun looked that it was just going to set. Nell and I decided to sit down at the beach, talking and laughing together as Jess played in the water with Stacy and Stampy. Eventually, Nikki and Radar came towards us as well, the two of them having their own chat.

"Nell— I.. am I.. an idiot to you..?", I asked.

"No? Why?", she replied, drinking a small cup of wine.

"I dunno, I..", I sighed, unable to take the words out. I closed my eyes but they snapped back up when I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked up at Nell giving me a warm smile, a similar one Petra used to give me..

"Hey, idiot or not, Jesse we're still friends! Besides, if you're an idiot then I'm going to be an idiot with you..", she grinned, hugging me tightly and resting her head back on my chest. "You've saved me a lot, Jesse and I.. I haven't even given you a proper thank you, so.. thanks for saving my life, twice and thanks for being here with me.."

I was surprised yet happy with the response. I let my arm rest around her and closed my eyes again. I opened them back up to see the beautiful sky above me, but from the corner of my eyes, I could see a familiar redhead running away from where I was. Was it.. Petra..?

"Nell, I'm glad I've spent some time with you..", I said, standing up. "I— I think I'm going to head out early, goodnight!"

"Ight, 'night Jesse!", she grinned, waving as I left. I waved back before going off to see if what I saw was true. Luckily, I'm good with following things by small glances so I had not a lot of trouble. When I saw who it was, I was surprised to see Petra, sitting on a bench with a few birds chirping here and there.

"I miss the times I was with Jesse.. the times we would go on adventures together.. the times we talked all day.. the times where we joke around..", I heard her say. She started sobbing as she lowered her head and hugged her knees as tightly as she could muster. "E-Everything...! I m-miss everything about him...! It h-hurts so m-much..!!"
