"Welcome to the Mouth of Hell" Summary: When high school Sophomore student Buffy Summers moves to Sunnydale, California to start a new life after being expelled from her old school in L.A., she expects nothing but a fresh start--including a retirement from her duty as the Vampire Slayer. What she doesn't know is that Sunnydale is a hotspot for demonic and evil energy. Buffy soon learns that escaping her unwanted calling is harder than she thought, because when her past comes back to finish unsolved business, and her and her friends are put in danger, she must make a choice between the life she wants and having a life to live.

"Buffy!" My mom called through my bedroom door. "You'd better get up. You don't want to be late for your first day of school!"

I rolled over in my bed, squinted my eyes at the harsh light of day, and mumbled, "No...wouldn't want that."

"Come on! Shake a leg! You can't afford to be late!" She continued, knocking on my door this time.

"Yeah, mom, I know. Just...let me wake up!"

"Fourty-five minutes." Her voice sing-songed.

Then her footsteps turned and headed back down the hall.

It's safe to say I'm a crabby person in the morning. Today would be worse, compared to some. It's not that I don't like school, but I was extremely on edge this last week. Two months ago, my sophomore homecoming went out with a little flare...literally. The gym suddenly came under attack by a giant swarm of vampires, and after evacuating everyone, I burnt it down. Hence, expulsion. Hence, a new school. Hence, today was the first day at my new school.

I guess you probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not...believe me, I wish I was.

I'm what you'd call a vampire slayer. Actually...I'm the vampire slayer. Or at least Im supposed to be. Trouble is, seems like whatever I do to save the world ends up ruining my life. So I've gone into sort of an early...retirement.

But as they say...when one chapter of your life comes to an end, another one begins.

I rolled out of bed, dragging my feet, and made my way down the hall, to the bathroom. Starting the shower water, I thought about how Sunnydale High School would be. I mean, the name sounded cheery. 'Sunny'dale. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, after all. Then again, it sounded like the name of a preppy school...which, if that was the case, I would be better off moving again. Maybe I'd go to Wisconsin... seems pretty quiet there, with cows, corn, and Amish folk.

Once I was free of my hello kitty pajamas, I stepped in the shower and let the warm water soak my hair and cleanse my body. It felt nice. Like I hadn't showered in a week, and all the grime of my crappy life was being rinsed away. I applied the usuals...body soap, shampoo, conditioner...then I rinsed and stepped out. The cold air hit me, and I shivered, struggling to dry myself in an attempt for warmth. That was when I realized I hadn't brought any clothes with me to the bathroom. Today was going to be a LONG day.

"Good morning, sweetheart. Your muffin's on the counter." My mom said, pouring her coffee, as I walked into the kitchen.

I eyed the muffin noticing the little fruit chunks in it.

"Strawberry?" I prompted, going to take a bite.

"Raisin." She said, and I set the muffin back down with a scowl.

She turned and faced me. A moment passed in silence, and I knew a lecture was coming at me.

"Look, Buff...Im not going to pretend like nothing happened in that gym two months ago...but Im also not going to be all negative and hung up on the past about it. We have a fresh start now. A new life. I was lucky enough to get you into as good a school as this one. Just...don't get kicked out. 'Kay?" She half smiled, pleadingly.
