You know when you meet that one person, the one that's going to be in your life forever, when everything just fits? I met mine...it just took me nearly thirty years to realise it..well no it took him nearly thirty years to realise.
He was my best friend for god knows how long. We grew up together. We did absolutely everything together...until he had to leave for months on end.
It properly started in the summer of 2000. You know...when he got cast in Harry Potter. (Of course there were 2 other films before that but he wasn't gone for long and to be honest I don't really remember it) But I loved the book....I still remember the day it came out.
I was always ahead in reading at school. I was reading Teen Fiction from about the age seven. The book that got me into that genre was probably 'The Bloody Red Baron' and because of it I'd read books like 'Northern Lights', 'Hogfather' so when this book came out I was intrigued...and that turned into obsession.
The following year Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released and I made my mum go to the release of the book in London just so I could meet the author JK Rowling... and I did...I even got my book signed which at the time was the highlight of my life. And then of course Prisoner of Azkaban came out..along with the news that the book was being adapted into a film.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I remember making a joke that Tom and one or two characteristics were the same as Draco...but he 100% was nothing like him. Of course...at the time he didn't understand. But then came the news that literally changed everything. Two weeks before the end of the school year in 2000, I was of course sat with Tom and his friends because I had none of my own.. I'm joking..I did their names were Mallory Pattinson and Willow Gordon.
Mal had this bright red hair that was curly..it wasn't too long. She also had these glasses that made her look older than she really was. She had light freckles compared to me...I had to admit I was jealous of her looks but not really her personality...she was a right bitch, she really was horrible to a lot of people...and I remember when someone I was acquainted with was reading Harry Potter at lunch and she out of the blue walzted over and snactched the book out of this girls hand and tore the pages out one by one and started calling her names like 'Freak' and 'abomination'. I felt awful for the girl..but I couldn't do anything..I was paralysed since this was the first time I had ever seen her like this.
Willow however was much nicer than Mallory. She had straight black hair that fell just above her waist..it was finished with a fringe that sat just below her browline. Her eyes were ever so lighter than her hair. She too was obsessed with Harry Potter but just like me she couldn't say much. She also had this beautiful Labrador called Roxy..she was the friendliest dog I've ever met. Willow was always so polite to people unlike Mallory...I tried to follow Willow's example but Mallory's boyfriend Max was her boyfriend and I felt like I had to be nice to them both for Tom's sake and because Max was friends with my Brother.
Next we had the boys...one of them was my Brother Charlie, he was my twin brother and obviously friends with Tom. Charlie looked similar to me, he just had shorter hair and no freckles. And then you had Max... he looked a little bit like Tom but his hair was lighter and his skin was darker. I didn't like Max at all to be honest...he's always bullied me..called me 'Fatty' on a daily basis, he never called me it in front of the others though, just when they couldn't hear. He also always used to say that I should find some friends my own age even though I was in the same year at school because no one in our group actually liked me...which of course I knew this was a lie since one member in the group was kind of my brother.
"So you know that book you're obsessed with?" Tom asked once the others had gone to get lunch.
"Which one?" I replied after biting off a piece of my breadstick.
Tom rolled his eyes, "You know which!"
"Ohh, yeah...what about it!" I turned to look at him.
"So you know they are making a film?" He asked slowly.
"Yes?" Where is this going?
"My agent ..got me an audition for Harry Potter and Ron Weasley....but I got Draco Malfoy!" He mumbled making sure no-one overheard.
"YOU WHAT!" I nearly screamed.
"Shh, I didn't wanna tell you because I didn't know when I would have to leave...and no-one is really meant to know!" He continued mumbling.
"So when do you have to leave?" I went back to eating my breadstick.
" I think in September...but I'd ask my mum if I were you..she'd know!" Tom laughed at his lack of knowledge.
That conversation changed everything. That was the start of all the shit that was yet to come. Because of Joanne Rowling some people got hurt and I wish I didn't have to tell this story...but some stories have to be told.
This is my story.
This is Tom's story.
But most importantly.....
This is our story!
