Chapter 47 Prepare for takeoff

Damien's POV, 11 pm

The investigation into the sightings we saw a few days ago failed to find where they went. Mike was visibly disturbed by this. I'd never seen him like this. He keeps telling me that it's coming and we all know it. My face hasn't said a word but my heart has been screaming. They were spotted in my home city. This was Dylan's planning to strike me where I'm weak...family. I've been in touch with Grace constantly for updates, nothing. We were all in combat gear round the clock. It's coming any day, any hour, any minute now. Our weapons were checked over and over. We gathered everyone yesterday to go over all our gadgets. I even scared the shit out of Gilles when I appeared behind him cleaning his shield. It gave the unit a laugh we really needed in a time like this. One of those priceless moments that I made dozens of back in Afghanistan.

When I told Tina about what happened she started helping out Grace with the coverage. Come to find out that half the base is helping out taking major stress off of Grace and Eliza. Chul told me that when he called Grace she told him about how happy she was to have finally slept without worry. Monika also brought good news. Marius had come out of his shell since Romania and showed his previous self. She said he went straight to Harry and asked what he could do to help. What Harry had in mind shook us all.

Time skip 1 hour

We run outside as the dirt and dust are kicked up on the ground around us. After waiting in the center courtyard we all cheer.

Damien: "Welcome to Fort Richard, Marius." I say walking over to him and giving him a hug.

Marius: "Nice to see you Alpha!" He says with a smile brighter than the sun's rays.

I take a step back and make a hole for Monika. She runs at him with her arms open. I stand by the group as we look on. She charges him with a hug. Like the fucking beast he is, he grabs her full force. Transfering her momentum into a spin picking her up and laughing happily. I'm helpless in holding back a cheer seeing Marius smile again. Chul leans over to me.

Chul: "Now that my friend, is a man that conquered his demons." He says with a grin.

I take in his words, hearing them echo off the walls of my brain. After a solid minute of holding each other they part and Mike steps up to greet the legend.

Mike: "I'm grateful to see you back in action Mein Freund." He says in the worst german accent I'd ever heard. 

Marius: "Thank you mein freund." He says holding back a laugh showing Mike how it's pronounced.

We show Marius back to the barracks. He settles in quickly, finding a bunk next to Seamus and Mike's. It was off to the range for some target practice for us. Oliver, Gilles, Chul, Mike, Seamus, Monika, and we all load our magazines sharing our time here with Marius. I grabbed Gilles and had him stand facing the targets with his shield extended.

Damien: "Okay guys! Let's say we're pushing an enemy position. Gilles will be in front, obviously, we're all gonna stack behind him. The objective is to lean out behind his shield and eliminate the targets that he calls out. Mike will be overseeing our shots. You get two shots per target. Quick pops then leaning back behind Gilles. After you fire and Mike confirms hits you fall out of line and stand to the left. We go until we've all had a turn. Gilles when you're up I'll deploy a flashbang at the targets. You let them have it."

Gilles takes his position. Monika was first up with her AUG A2.

Gilles: "Target! 1 o'clock low!"

She leans out raising her rifle. POP-POP! Leaning back in Mike calls from the right. "Both shots on target." She leats out a yes moving left out of line. Seamus was next. He charged back the action on his L85A2. Taking a breath waiting for the call.
