Dylan's POV, Unknown location
I sit in my dark office watching the live feed of our attack set up in an apartment window across the street. While the initial stages of the attack worked out as planned I wasn't aware of how fast Rainbow would show up. When we lost Watchpoint Bravo a few days ago, it was apparent that Rainbow had gotten their hands on our plans. I could hear the communications room down the hallway going crazy. Normally I would've stepped in by now, but I wanted to believe I had confidence in my officers to run this attack smoothly...I was wrong. I knew either way the man that volunteered for this mission wasn't coming back. Even if Rainbow hadn't shown up I know the power of the United States National Guard and its defense budget. At the end of the day, it's just a suicide mission for those involved to send a message. A message proving that even the world's superpower cant escape our reach. I continue watching and it looks like the end is near. From where the camera is set up on the third floor of the apartment building I can see through the windows of the last holdout of our men inside the last two classrooms. I watch as the first room's door gets blown off its hinges and Rianbow operatives flood the room gunning down my men. The heavy gunner opens up through the wall and they all take cover. It was hard to tell the enemies apart from each other with gas masks on but I could recognize the sledgehammer and know who that was. The wall opens up and one of the three men left tries to flank through the hallway.
He opens the door and gets a single shot off before I see his brains get flung across the ceiling. Before the others could react a flashbang goes off in the room, I watch carefully but no one enters behind it. At least that's what I thought. I lean in and watch the screen closely as the heavy gunner has his weapon ripped out of his hands, falls to one knee, and has a bullet put through his neck. I knew right away that it was Damien. It was almost like a movie watching his cloak deactivate and seeing the Phantom appear out of thin air. I nearly had to look away watching my last man get butchered before getting thrown out of the window. I sigh a heavy breath before closing my laptop. My mind was racing with thoughts of how it feels to be on the other end of his wrath. Of course, I had seen it plenty of times in Afghanistan but always from the friendly side. I must say seeing it from the side of the enemy is truly terrifying and I can more clearly see why he was given the name Vide or Phantom by the enemy.
One of my officers enters my office holding a mission report in his hands. He places it on the desk in front of me and confirms that the mission was a success. I ask him if we had a casualty report yet, to which he replies with "No sir" I tell him that'll be all and he shows himself out. I sit quietly in the darkness for a few minutes when my lead interrogator walks in. She has always walked with a pep in her step but oddly today it would seem that aspect of her character was missing.
Dylan: "How may I help you, Mavis?" I ask turning on the small lamp on the corner of my desk.
Mavis: "I'm sure you've been watching the finale of our attack along with everyone in the communications room, I was just wondering what you think our next move is?" She asks walking around my office and looking at all the decorations I have on the walls.
Dylan: "I'm not exactly sure for right now. We have to wait and see how the world reacts tomorrow morning before planning anything else." I say looking at the report on my desk.
Mavis: "You know they're coming for you, right?" She says with an eerie laugh.
I glance up at her, my eyes squinting in anger partially confused by what she meant.
Dylan: "What the fuck did you just say to me?" I say placing the report down and turning my full attention to her.
Mavis: "Well you know this isn't some run-of-the-mill bureaucratic county we're dealing with. These guys have no borders, no jurisdiction, and no political boundaries they have to follow. After today I wouldn't be surprised if taking you down becomes their number-one concern. We know they have the skill and intelligence it's just a matter of time." She says leaning against the filing cabinet.
