Izuku didn't text.
He called.
A few days passed when (Y/n) felt her phone vibrate in her bag while she was on her way out from her class. Reading Deku's contact name reiterated the place he's made for himself in her life.
She almost dropped everything scrambling to unlock her smartphone. Other students brushed by her in the building's doorway, some snickering to themselves at the display or looking at one another with those quick, irritated glances. (Y/n) didn't notice them.
One swipe on the screen. She didn't swipe it all the way across, her enthusiasm coming out a little too much in her fingertips. Oops. Second swipe. Same thing. It was still ringing. Fuck, he was going to hang up before she even answered. He was a busy person, after all, being Number One. Deku didn't have time to sit and wait for a girl to leave his dial tone ringing. No Pro Hero did.
Her stomach jumped to her throat when she finally unlocked her phone. "Hello??" She blared, wrenching the phone up to her ear.
"Hey!" Izuku smoothed, completely nonchalant and in no rush at all. (Y/n) blinked, staring off ahead. "Did you want to meet up after I get off from work?" He asked. It sounded like he took a bite of something. He must be eating lunch.
(Y/n) didn't even consider all the homework she'd been putting off. Her shift at Satou's tonight completely bypassed her, too. None of her responsibilities even crossed her mind. Izuku didn't bother to ask, either, if she had other plans already.
"Yes."
She wanted to be available to him. She held the phone against her cheek, but the fingers on her free hand tapped against the hem of her shirt. Terse and strained, (Y/n) shifted, not registering the other students crossing the city street as the cars stopped for them.
Izuku seemed distracted in his response. "Okay. Okay, good."
(Y/n) heard some movement. She should say something else. He called her, after all.
"How ar–?"
"I'll stop by your place at around 7. See you then," he hung up.
(Y/n) stood with the phone still against her ear. Her surroundings became tangible once more with the distraction of the phone call gone, and she could hear the city sounds of people shouting at each other and cars honking. Though, the ache of Izuku hanging up on her outshone the sudden influx of her senses.
It's a burning flurry of a realization, when she remembers her shift tonight. And her assignments due tomorrow. And an upcoming quiz she has to study for.
(Y/n) started at a fast pace towards her apartment, but she didn't even realize her own footsteps until she almost slammed face-first into a pole.
She should call Izuku and cancel. No, what was she thinking? When will she ever get another chance to go out with a Pro Hero? Calling out of work is a better option. But they're already so understaffed... She didn't want Hana to suffer their manager's attitude.
(Y/n) meandered up the stairwell of her apartment building, eyes glued to her feet. He didn't even tell her what they were doing tonight. Was he just going to show up? She grimaced, unlocking the door to her apartment. She should get as much homework done as she could before he arrived.
***
The knock on her door came at a little past 7 PM, just like he said.
(Y/n)'s nerves ate her alive all day, so focusing on her homework proved to be difficult. She almost bolted to the door but reminded herself to calm down, taking a breath before she greeted her guest.
