"Hey boys, can we play volleyball with you guys?" Kaitlin asks, being her confident and perky self. The boys look at each other for a second before replying.
"Sure, no problem. What do we want teams to be?" the brown haired boy asked. By looking now I noticed the bluest eyes I have ever seen, and I know for sure he's a ladies man. I definitely know I don't want my heart broken, so I know I'm going to stay away from him, or at least keep my heart away.
"Oh, it doesn't matter. I guess I'll be on your team." Kaitlin explains to the other boy. Upon looking, I can see the slight tint of red in his hair. Ok, maybe it's a little more than a hint but it's hot. Its not too red, but just red enough. He's pretty tan for a ginger which adds to his overall good looks.
"Sure, no problem. I'm Wesley and that's my best friend Dylan." The red head, Wesley, explains.
"Oh cool, my name is Julia and these are my friends Kaitlin and Logan." Julia explains while pointing us out to the boys. Both Wesley and Dylan acknowledge our presence when our name is said and it feels like Wesley's gaze last a little longer on me than normal, but who am I kidding, it's probably because of my hair which is a mess due to the ocean.
Dylan then speaks up to pick his team.
"I'll take Logan and Julia on my team. We obviously know who's going to get their asses kicked" Dylan states while pointing mockingly at Kaitlyn and Wesley.
"Oh, come on Dylan, just let the playing do the talking." Kaitlyn flirts effortlessly while Wesley smirks and picks up the ball to begin the game.
Wesley serves the ball over and we begin the game.
" Wow, Logan your really good. You play volleyball?" Wesley asks with a smile.
I open my mouth to answer but Julia answers for me, "No, she plays soccer, but I play volleyball." Julia finishes off with a flirty smile. I have no idea why she even answered that question. I could say the basic comeback of, that has nothing to do with her, but I know its a plan to get Wesley to realize that she is there and wants to talk to him. Wesley grins knowingly at me and starts a conversation with the intent of talking to only me while we wait for Dylan to get a ball Julia hit far down the beach in an attempt of showing off.
"You play soccer? Me too! What club do you play for?"
" uh, I play for a local club in Indiana. It's pretty new, so you might not know what it is. Actually you probably won't know anything about Indiana, its pretty boring."I reply with a chuckle. (no offense to Indiana natives... don't worry, I'm one of you)
"Aha ya, I've been to Indiana once... to get to Michigan." Wesley replies with a nervous chuckle and a embarrassed smile.
"I'm not surprised, there's not much to see in Indiana. Maybe the Indy 500 and some corn. That's about it."
Wesley closes his eyes to let out a burst of laughter, and I take the time to admire his white smile and the freckles on his tan face. They dot his face like the stars on a clear night. They look like they've been carefully placed in each spot, and I'm soon absorbed in his looks.
My thoughts are interrupted when Dylan returns with the ball and positions himself to serve the ball. The ball sails over to Wesley and Kaitlyn's side of the net and begins to be hit around before sailing over to our side. We continue to volley back and forth until the ball is set to me by Dylan to spike it over. I take a lax approach and hit the ball hard onto the sand of the the other side. Kaitlyn dives for the ball but is a few feet off and lands flat on her face in the sand.
"WHOOOO!" Dylan yells and runs around the court with his arms out like a plane around the court, " We won!"
Wesley hangs his head in fake shame and pretends to cry at Dylan's antics.
The other girls giggle obnoxiously at them while I chuckle quietly under my breath.
"I knew we were going to kick your asses!" Dylan screeches while Wesley looks fake angry at me,
"Why did you have to beat us? Now I'm going to hear about this all day from the bum who didn't even do anything to help you win!" Wesley laughs while looking at Dylan who is still circling the court.
"Well, I guess we should go before dinner so we can change. I think we're going out tonight," Julia comments, " Bye guys! Thanks for letting us play."
As we walk away, Kaitlyn and Julia give flirty smile to the boys, while I stand there awkwardly. Wesley notices my discomfort, so winks and waves at me.
I'm taken back by this and I awkwardly stand there with a perplexed look on my face and wave. The wink causes me to blush, but he obviously didn't mean it like that. It was out of pity...right?
