Easy Escape

Phoenix’s P.O.V

I woke up to yelling in the hallway. Ugh, can’t the boys just be quiet! I mean, surely Zayn has taught them a thing or two about beauty sleep.

“I don’t care, I don’t want to,” I heard Ari yell. Oh god, what has she done.

Then, Liam’s voice erupted through the halls. “Whether you want to or not, you’re going to go work at the factory until our next concert!”

“What the Miz, Ari,” I mumbled to myself, getting out of bed. “I thought we were going to escape by working there.”

I opened the door, causing Ari to fall. “I was leaning on that,” she muttered, dusting herself off. “Alright, Liam. You win.”

He walked away, a blanket of happiness covering his face. I walked back into the bedroom with my friend and demanded why she had that argument with Daddy Direction.

“Reverse psychology,” she answered, packing a small bag. “Works on boys very well.”

I grinned evilly, but wanted to slap her so bad. “Do you mind if I slap you?” I asked, hoping she would say yes.

“For what,” Ari replied, with a strict tone. She didn’t look up at me as she continued to pack.

“For scaring me,” I answered before adding, “please.”

She let out an exaggerated sigh and said, “I guess so.”

She looked me in the eye as I smacked her across the face. “Thanks,” I said, turning back to my bag. “I needed to get that out of my system.”

Arizona just rolled her eyes at me and groaned. “Well, I bit you a few days ago, so we’re even.”

We talked more about our previous biting and slapping as we strolled out of the room. The boys were waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs, beaming. Louis playfully punched Ari on the shoulder, winking at her. Her smile disappeared as she glared at Liam, then Louis.

“Not in the mood, Tomlinson,” she coughed. “Phoe, you stay and chat, I’m heading out.”

“How are you getting there?” Harry asked her.

She walked to the door and shrugged with her back turned towards us. “I have my ways,” my friend called over her shoulder.

Then it hit me, Scarlet. “So, what was that about,” Niall asked, putting his arm around me. I do like him, but last night was an act.

“She woke up earlier than expected,” Liam started as we all sat around the kitchen table, “so we talked. I told her that her and Phoe still had to work at the cheesecake factory, and she totally flipped on me!”

“Girls,” Zayn said through gritted teeth, taking a swig of orange juice.

I stole a piece of toast from Niall who shot me that look that crawls under your skin. He slowly pushed his plate away from me and more towards Harry, who stole a slice of orange.

“MY FOOD,” Niall screamed, grabbing the plate and running to the living room.

“Well, anyway,” I said as the remaining boys returned their attention to me, “I also slapped Ari across the face.”

Their mouths hung open as Niall peeked his head in the doorway. “Really?” he asked, stuffing bacon in his mouth.

“Yeah, may I have some bacon?”

Niall shook his head no and held the plate behind his back. I got up from the barstool and said, “Well, we’ll have to do this the hard way then.”

I tackled him to the ground and started to tickle him, don’t judge my ways of punishment. He rolled around laughing, begging for me to stop. He offered me his Nintendo 3DS, Wii, pool privileges, but not bacon.

“What about bacon?” I asked, gripping his shirt as Harry tried to pry me off.

“No, no bacon for you,” the stubborn Irish man said.

“Alright then,” I said releasing his shirt, making Harry fall backwards onto the plate of food. “Now, you can’t have any more.”

And with that, I grabbed my black leather jacket, cell phone and bag, and headed out the door. I dialed up Ari, who was sitting on a park bench.

“What are you doing on a park bench?” I asked, shocked.

“Boss simply said to enjoy myself until you arrived,” my buddy explained. “Walk on down, Scarlet’s here, too.”

“Hey, hey girlfriend,” a chipper voice said.

“Hey, Scar,” I laughed. “So are we leaving now?”

“Yeah, Ari just made a cover story so you wouldn’t worry. The boss was VERY disappointed that you two were quitting and chased us out with a butcher knife,” Scar explained.

“Oh god, I’m not going there ever again,” Arizona groaned. “Anyway, Penny got it recorded on her phone and e-mailed it to all three of us. It’s actually quite entertaining, . . . if you weren’t the ones with your lives at stake. Thankfully, everyone at the store thought it was an act, you know, making a dramatic exit.”

“If anything,” I replied, nearing the park. “we make dramatic entrances. Exits, well, those aren’t dramatic, . . . they’re unforgettable or flabbergasting at least, but not dramatic.”

“Good vocabulary,” Ari said, probably grinning from ear to ear.

“You need to get a life,” Scarlet and I chorused.

I heard their voices from the other side of the park. Once I arrived on the spot, they were nowhere in sight. “Where are you?” I asked, rubbing my chin and looking around. I heard the dial tone, meaning that they hung up, jerks.

“Making them drool by their chinny chin chins!” someone screamed, tackling me.

“Baby be mine tonight, mine tonight. Baby, be mine tonight, yeah,” I sang.

We all had a laughing moment, where we couldn’t stop. Once we did, we linked arms and skipped off the scene to Scar’s black Lam

“Louis would be so jealous,” Ari pointed out, jumping into the back. I slid into the passenger seat, Scar driving.

“You’re still a good driver, right?” I asked cautiously.

Scarlet laughed at me. “Let’s find out,” she said, turning the key in the ignition and speeding off. Yeah, good driver alright.
