Mob (Clan) Hierarchies

These are the roles/ranks for each Meerkat mob

Matriarch (Dominant Female)

Every meerkat mob has a dominant pair, and the dominant female is the one who leads the group out for most daily activities, such as foraging and territory disputes.

Patriarch (Dominant Male)

The partner to the matriarch, he helps the dominant female with decision making and helps keep the rest of the clan in check. He leads the charge against roving males from other clans and is the main scent enforcer. Their are also rare cases of a male meerkat leading a mob, in which he is called a "Patriarch".

Deputy

The deputy is the eldest subordinate female of the clan who holds the most potential in carrying on the clan's legacy. She will be the one who will end up taking over if the matriarch is killed, or retires. This position can not be gained, it is earned.

Herbalist

The herbalist is in charge of keeping everyone in the clan healthy, as well as aiding the matriarch with birthing future members of the clan. They have their own chamber deep within the burrow where they store their herbs.

Warriors

Warriors are the bulk of the clan, and help protect their clanmates. They offer whatever they can in the form of protecting the pups, keeping look-out, and escorting the Herbalist to and from the burrow. They also ensure the protection of their Matriarch and aid her during territorial disputes.

Look-Outs

Look-outs are key members of the clan, as they take elevated positions to ensure the safety of their clan. They do this with unique barks, each signaling the closeness of an enemy, whether the enemy is moving, or whether the enemy is fast approaching. Examples of enemies are Tawny Eagles and rival Meerkat clans.

Elders

Elders are the retired members of the clan, that do not partake in as many activities. They do, however, still go out on foraging trips with their clan, and often teach pups how to forage and often tell stories of their adventures.

Babysitters

Babysitters are also key members of the group, as they ensure the protection of the dominant pair's pups. They always stay at the main burrow with the Matriarch's pups and will often lay down their lives to ensure the pups survival. Most babysitters are subordinate females, as they help feed the Matriarch's pups.

Adolescents

Adolescents are the ever active, always playful children of the Matriarch. They do not reach adolescent age, until two months after their first foraging trip. Adolescents do not just consist of the dominant female's pups, but may rarely include a subordinate's pups.

Pups

Pups are the future of the clan, and are the most important key members for a clan, other than the dominant pair themselves. Pups are unable to exit the safety of the burrow until after their first three weeks of life, where they will stay with the safety of the babysitter's for three more weeks.

Rovers

Rovers are male meerkats that come of age to where they can breed and leave their families for varying durations to be able to breed with subordinate females of other mobs, and if their lucky, the matriarch. Roving males can go as a solo male, or even a small group of males. Roving males, while they don't stick with the female for long, can sometimes form new mobs.

Evictees

Evictees are subordinate females that get kicked out during the time their Matriarch is close to having her pups. This is often done as a way for the Matriarch to protect her unborn pups if the Evictee is also pregnant, as there is a chance that the subordinate may eat the dominant female's pups. Evictees cannot be accepted into another mob. These evicted females may also group together to increase their chances of survival.

There will be no Warrior Code, as I cannot really think of any rules they'd have to follow. Plus, Meerkats are completely different from cats and have their own lifestyles. There will also be no "nine lives" aspect, as a dominant pair would have to split those lives, but the main thing is that the nine lives only ties with, well, cats.

The main landmarks are:

The Great Divide, a road in which two-legged machines roar past. Many meerkats have lost their lives there.

The Water Trough, a watering hole where many creatures go for a drink. This is where the most blood has been spilt, as it is the closest water source for the mobs.

The Split Tree, a large tree where a lightning strike had split it down the middle. This is where the mobs gather during every full moon.
