The bells rang in her eardrums, lights danced before her eyelids, and sandpaper coated her fingertips.
The first thing she could feel once her consciousness regained was her head, pressing into the cool fabric of her pillow. It throbbed violently and stabbed purple colors into her vision as she attempted to flicker her eyes open.
"You're awake." a voice murmured quietly from nearby, startling her grogginess entirely away.
Camryn squinted as she winced from the daylight, turning her head to come face to face with Harry Potter.
She was surprised to see him seated in a chair on her bedside - he was the last person she'd expected to grace her with a presence. He appeared slightly exhausted as if he hadn't gotten any sleep, massaging his temples as his gaze remained glued onto her.
"In fact I am," mumbled Camryn as she rubbed her eyes, "What happened? Have you been here all night?"
Potter scoffed quietly, glancing away, "Don't flatter yourself, Rey, I've only been here for an hour. You slipped and fell on some water in the locker room while we were talking and I took you to Madam Pomphrey, who says you have a concussion. She sent me back to my common room after a while claiming that you needed rest."
She couldn't help but mischievously grin, leaning back against her pillows, "You stayed here with me? How heartwarming."
"Piss off." Potter rolled his eyes, although she could clearly see his cheeks reddening, "I'm not that vile to leave you lying around."
Events from the night before came rushing through as she recalled the late hours, remembering their heated conversation. She anxiously entwined her fingers together in her lap as she pursed her lips.
"Listen, Potter," Camryn began tentatively, "I-"
"No, don't strain yourself." he interrupted before slowly sighing, "I was just angry about everything, and- and you were right. I should've listened to you and I know the type of person you are, and you would never try to hurt me or anyone intentionally."
She nodded carefully, "Thank you. Smith is nothing more than one of my many idiot ex's, and I'll have you know... we broke up because he was cheating on me with some seventh year Slytherin. I would never try to do the same because I do know how awful it feels to be the secret second choice."
Potter's expression was astounded as exasperatedly sighed, "Now I feel like an idiot."
"You are an idiot." Camryn's grin was wide, "Anyhow, now seems like an appropriate time to boast about my victory yesterday."
