I kept my hand on Kane's leg as it took him much longer to relax than I liked. Kaden actually felt slightly guilty and set me a sheepish smile which I responded to by flipping him off. Kane dropped his arm over my shoulder during the movie and it felt way too incredibly nice. We made it through the movie with a little less tension than we started with.
I felt bad for Addie sitting in her nest so I said goodbye to the Blood Moon Boys for the afternoon and spent it with her and Kora who stayed behind. We ate junk food and watched TV until dinner time. Mom brought over food but refused to stay to eat because of Kane. That was not going to be an easy one to fix, she was already mad about me missing out on lunch with her because I was with him. I'd have to fix that, too.
I let the Blood Moon boys in and we returned to the dining room table for dinner. Same people as breakfast came to sit except Cassie and Renzo who stayed home tonight. Rykan left for the day but returned because he didn't want to be away from Kora that long. It was back to pretty awkward at the dinner table, no one speaking to Kane. Addie took mercy on us and cleared her throat once she was done eating, looking at Kane.
"Did you like the movie, Kane? I hope you did because Kay and Tess can't go more than a few days without watching it."
"It was good," he nodded.
"He barely laughed," I said, rolling my eyes.
"I was just thrown off. I didn't know there wouldn't be actual people in it," he defended.
"It's a kid's movie," I frowned. "Most kid's movies are animated. What's your favorite movie?"
He hesitated, his eyes darting to the table briefly as he shrugged. "I don't have one."
"Everyone has a favorite movie," Addie pressed.
"Then I guess it's Moana," he shrugged.
"Suck up," Kaden coughed.
I glared at Kaden before addressing Kane. "Don't do that," I said, nudging his knee with mine. "You have things you like. I want to know what they are. Don't make up what you think I want to hear."
"I'm not making it up, Tess. It's my favorite because it's the first movie I've seen," Kane answered.
I thought the table was silent before, now you could hear a pin drop. Even Xander looked up in confusion.
"What? Like ever?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Why?" I frowned.
"There aren't any TVs in our pack house," Kane shrugged.
"There aren't..." Kaden trailed off, frowning in confusion.
"Well what the hell did you do as a kid for fun? And what do you do now for fun?" Addie asked.
"There wasn't time for fun as a kid," he shrugged, looking uncomfortable.
I set my hand on his leg and he relaxed a little.
"That can't be true, there's always time for fun," I said, shaking my head.
"Not under Alpha Bryce," Connor muttered.
Now the whole table stiffened. Bryce was Kane's dad. Kane sent a warning growl to Connor who bowed his head. Xander's eyes darted to mine and I shook my head. I would find out about Kane's past but not in front of everyone.
