"I need you to send someone to New York." Ledare informed Stryka without any preamble as he answered the phone. Ledare was completing his nightly tour of the exterior to make sure no one had set off his traps.

"Problems?" Stryka asked from their home in Wales.

There was silence for a beat, then in a bewildered tone, "I exposed myself."

Stryka groaned and sounding in pain said, "Too many jokes. No one to appreciate them."

"I...she..." sigh, "That is...we are..."

"Shit Bro it must be bad. Is she that hot?"

Stryka heard him swallow audibly and frowned at the phone. The only time Ledare had been this bad was when they had to tell their mother that their dad hadn't survived the explosion that had put the King in the coma two years ago. The 530 years before that, never.

"You are scaring me man. Spit it out."

"She's my mate."

Ledare's revelation was met first with shocked silence. Then a great big booming laugh. Laughter that Ledare let carry on for a few minutes before he snapped "Shut it. This is no laughing matter."

That just seemed to set Stryka off more. Eventually he calmed enough to talk, wiping tears from his eyes.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry. It's just that you so sound so pissed to have found the thing Draks have fought wars for. Congratulations man."

"I don't want a mate. You know that. I never want to do to a woman what mum has suffered these past two years."

"Well that's simple. Just don't die."

Ledare rolled his eyes. "You don't get it. Lily is good and happy. I can't and won't bring her into this unless I have to."

They both took a second to think about taking a human who has no idea about them into their life.

"That sucks man."

"So send someone else to watch her until we have proof that she is Drak."

"Umm Bro, this is the proof. She's a Draks mate. This is the type of clue what we were looking for."

Ledare stopped walking.

"Are you certain she is your mate? I mean you could just horning after her; it has been a while."

"I can hear her thoughts."

Ledare sounded so depressed that Stryka laughed again.

"Right. So if she is your mate then she is Drak. You found the missing heir and your mate my man."

"We still can't be certain, I will keep watching until you send someone."

"Can you say denial?" Styrka scoffed. "Why wait? Just bring her in now."

"Do what you are told Stryka." Ledare hissed.

"Yes, sir." Ledare could practically see the mock salute, but all joking aside; he knows Styrka will do what he is told.

"I will think about what you said Styrka,in the meantime send someone."

"OK. Take care."

Lily's boots crunched on the silent street as she shifted her food shopping to her other hip, her hand and arm deep in her cavernous bag, touching everything but the smooth plastic of her smart phone that she wanted. She was coming back from an interview and had stopped to grab something for dinner.
