Shuichi Saihara never felt any self-worth.
He was just a useless, no-good brat who couldn't even speak up enough to thank everyone who was polite to him.
He often wondered if anyone would miss him were he to die, and whenever he tried to talk about it to someone, he ended up in therapy.
Not that the therapy ever helped.
How was sitting in a room and talking to someone going to make him feel better about himself? He already knew he was useless, so he didn't know why anyone even bothered.
Eventually, Shuichi decided to just not talk about his emotions so he didn't have to end up in another stuffy room.
Shuichi was walking down an empty street, pondering about whether he made the right choice signing up for Danganronpa. He had tried to sound as insane or as despair-crazed as he possibly could during his audition tape, hoping that if he talked about murder as if he enjoyed it, he would get in.
He had heard that Danganronpa ruined people, and many of the members died. Yet, that was the exact thing that made him sign up. The chances of him dying in that game were so great, and that excited him. If he couldn't take his own life in the outside world, someone else could do it for him in Danganronpa.
That was when they came. A group of hooded figures jumped out a white van beside Shuichi and shoved him inside. Then, his world went black.
Shuichi woke up in a cramped, dark space. He moved around, searching for an exit.
Am I dead? he thought hopefully.
His dreams were crushed when someone opened the door and Shuichi came tumbling out. He looked up to see a blonde haired girl with grey-pink eyes. "W-Where am I? W-Who are you?! A-Are you one of the people from the van?!" he asked, a faint trace of hope in his voice. The girl slapped him, making him assume that she didn't hear the hopefulness in his tone. "Be quiet and maybe we'll actually figure this out!" she said, aggravation filling her voice. Jeez. She clearly had no idea how to read people, did she? "S-Sorry..." he muttered, making himself cringe. Can't even apologize without sounding like a brat... he thought, his lip curling in disdain. Luckily, the girl didn't seem to notice, because she just kept on talking.
"I'm Kaede Akamatsu, the Ultimate Pianist! What about you?" the girl, Kaede, said cheerfully. "I-I'm... Shuichi Saihara... They call me the Ultimate Detective, but I only ever solved one case..." I stuttered again. Wow Shuichi, you're just as useless as usual.
"Well, I think we should try to find the others." Kaede said, looking around the room. "G-Great plan, Akamatsu-san..." Shuichi muttered, willing to look for anywhere he'd be able to find something to help him achieve his mission.
After meeting the others and the Monokubs, Shuichi headed to his dorm room. Such a lazy detective! he scolded himself. Too caught up in your own desires to even investigate to help others escape!
Shuichi was so caught up in scolding himself that he bumped into someone, knocking them over with him. "Ah! I-I'm sorry!" he stammered, quickly standing up and reaching out a hand to help whoever it was up.
"Stupid degenerate male!" the person hissed back, swatting his hand away. "I know you planned this!"
Shuichi realized that it was Tenko, a girl who seemed like a very extreme feminist, so much so that she hated men for merely existing.
"I-I'm very sorry, C-Chabashira-san—"
"Just piss off!" she snarled, nose scrunched in disdain. She walked away, her steps heavy and angry.
Stupid Shuichi! And what the hell was that apology?! he mentally scolded himself. Truly, truly pathetic...
"Shuichi!"
Shuichi turned around to see Kaede running towards him, a wonderful bright smile on her face. It was so warm and inviting that it made Shuichi smile back, but he was sure that his didn't give off the same affect.
"So, we all wanted to get together and do an activity!" Kaede announced, clapping her hands together. "Do you wanna come?"
Shuichi's cheeks lit up with embarrassment, and he covered his face with his hat.
"U-Um, s-sure I'll come..." he mumbled, stumbling over his words.
"Yes! Go wait for us in the cafeteria!" And with that, Kaede ran away, leaving a very flustered Shuichi behind.
