The next morning brought about a visitor. Olivia was pleasantly surprised to see Lucy calling upon her, and she quickly rushed out of the house to offer her friend a hug. The ladies had not seen each other for some time, and Olivia had not informed her of the change in her engagement. She found herself extremely excited to share with Lucy the news.

“Lucy, dear! It is so wonderful to see you!” Olivia exclaimed as she led Lucy into the sitting room. A maid was already in the process of laying out a tray of tea for their enjoyment. After they had both found their seats, Lucy spoke.

“Yes, we were long overdue for a visit,” Lucy said but paused before continuing. “Something is different with you,” she stated.

“Different? How so?” Olivia asked, hardly containing her smile.

“You have an air about you. You seem happier than normal, and you have not stopped smiling since I walked through the door. Even now I can see that you are trying to hide it, but are failing horribly. Has something happened?” Lucy inquired.

“Yes, something has happened, something wonderful,” Olivia spoke on a wistful sigh.

“Do tell me what it is!” Lucy cried impatiently.

“Gregory and I,” Olivia paused for dramatic effect, “have decided to enter into a relationship.” Olivia had barely finished her sentence before Lucy squealed.

“Oh my, this is wonderful! Are you telling me that Gregory and yourself have actually admitted that you care for one another?” Lucy asked excitedly.

“Yes, that is what I am telling you. One day he told me that he couldn’t act as if he did not have feelings for me, and things just took off from there,” she explained.

“But how did this happen? The two of you were both so set against a relationship that I find it surprising you no longer have negative feelings for your marriage and each other. I think that it is so nice, but I am just wondering what set the wheels in motion.” Olivia hesitated after listening to Lucy. She did not intend on telling her about the incident in the woods, but how else was she to explain the start of their new found relationship?

“Well, it started when I got lost in the woods.” Olivia quickly held up her hand when she heard Lucy’s fearful gasp. “Gregory found me before any significant danger could befall me, but I think it made him realize feelings that he had been trying to suppress,” Olivia explained.

“How did you ever get lost in the woods?” Lucy asked, still feeling a slight fear at the idea of her friend lost and alone in the woods.

“It was due to the fact that I was so upset with Vivien that I lost my senses for a moment and wandered into the woods by myself,” she answered sheepishly.
