I am Poison

Pushing the boil-covered corpse off of me, I sat up in fright.

As I took in my surroundings, I realized I was in a stark white lab of sorts. I had just tossed off a technician in a canvas scientific coat. Jet black blood seeped from his ears. Every spot of uncovered flesh was pasted in scaly puss-filled sores, disgusting hand clasped around a spent needle.

A glance to my arm showed a reddened puncture wound. Similar sores blossomed in the crook of my arm, but in a small patch thinning in a three inch circle and less noticeable than on the technician.

Still the sight made me want to vomit.

Rapidly, I searched around the area, trying to get a judge on my whereabouts.

I was laid on a long hard table, a plethora of scientific tools, machines, and computers lined the walls. Everything spotlessly tidy. Beakers, microscopes, potions, and needles lined a table near my feet.

But I gasped at the sight beside me.

Sebastian.

My mate.

He was on the table beside me. Followed by Lisa and Madden.

We were all on a row of tables. Me and my friends.

But I was the only one alive. No breath. No heartbeat thrummed in the area.

They were dead.

They were all covered in the same boils, dark black blood dripping from their eyes and lips.

Tears stung at my eyes, and I brought my hands to hold the sounds pouring out of me at the loss of my mate and best friends.

We were inseparable. And now I was the only one left.

As the hotness of tears twisted down my cheeks, the night rammed back at me.

We had found a cave when we were out exploring and decided to check it out. The deeper and deeper we got, the more sinister the feeling, but the boys drove us to continue.

Suddenly lights, like the brightness of the sun, flooded the area, blinding our wolf eyes after using the dimmest of night vision.... And then nothing.

I woke on this pedestal.

Unburying my face, I frantically looked around the lab again. Four other men in lab coats were also at various stations. All covered in the same bubbled flesh.

One had fallen over Madden, blood coated scalpel still gripped in his hand, and Madden's stomach cut open clear to organs.

I gagged and needed to get out of wherever I was.

Sliding off the pedestal I ran for a black hallway, my wolf eyes instantly shifting to dark focus and tried to link my parents for help.

But nothing was getting through. It was like the link was static.

My mind was free.

Something I'd prayed for ever since I was young, but now it was frightening and terrible. I needed help.

The tile ended abruptly, and the corridor turned into a mud skewed cave.

The cave!

It had to be!

Dad! Help me!

I ran the whole cavern, my inner wolf begging me to turn back and free my mate. But I couldn't help Sebastian now. He was gone.

When the first traces of light spotted the cave, I shifted to my wolf form, landing on paws and galloping toward the freedom.

And suddenly I was bathed in forest.
