Chapter Ten - The Hidden Enemy

After the Cyclonian attack on the Resistance safehouse, a heavy blow had bee struck on the Resistance. The attack had left countless Resistance fighters dead, including Havelock and most of the Resistance leadership. In the ruins of the safehouse, Havelock and the rest of the fallen Resistance fighters were buried. The future of the Resistance was uncertain.

Callista: What do we do now, Rourke?

Rourke: I...I don't know. Just give me a second to think.

Callista: We're out of time. Our safehouse is compromised and lost a lot of good people. We need a plan.

Rourke: Then we find the survivors and regroup. Then we continue the fight.

Callista: Just like that? Whatever momentum we had before this attack is gone.

Rourke: We have to try something! We can't just give up!

Callista: Recovering from this attack won't be easy. People will lose hope.

Rourke: Then we have to show them that there's still hope. Show them that the Resistance is still in this fight. 

Callista remained silent. The recent death of her father had deeply shaken her resolve. It was Havelock who was the heart and soul of the Resistance. He was the reason that the Resistance grew the way it did. But now that he's done, many of the survivors had doubts that the Resistance could go on. 

Callista: We should leave this place as soon as possible. It's no longer safe. 

Rourke: Is there any place we can go?

Callista: There's another safehouse south of here. With how much they've taken from us, I doubt the Cyclonians will see us as a viable threat anymore. 

With that, Rourke and Callista began clearing up the base and prepare to move the survivors of the attack to the new safehouse. During this effort, Rourke makes his way to a partially destroyed building where vital equipment was being stored. As he went inside the building, he could see Fuse talking to someone on a Message Crystal. 

Rourke: (Fuse? What the hell is he doing out here?)

Suspicious, Rourke moved to investigate. Not wanting to alert Fuse, Rourke hides behind a crashed Skimmer. He soon listens in on the conversation.

???(Message Crystal): What is it?

Fuse(Message Crystal): I don't have much time, so I have to be quick. The Resistance is moving to another safehouse. 

???(Message Crystal): Your services are no longer acquired. The Resistance is no longer a threat. You have done a great service to the Cyclonian Empire. 

Fuse: But Rourke and Havelock's daughter are still alive. 

???(Message Crystal): So? Havelock is dead. The head of the snake is cut. The body will die soon enough. 

Fuse: You're underestimating those two. I've fought with them. I know what they're capable of. 

???(Message Crystal): If you insist, keep tabs on them. Inform us of whatever plans they are planning. Long live the Cyclonian Empire. 

Fuse: Long live the Cyclonian Empire. 

As the Fuse disconnected, Rourke was in shock as Fuse's treason had been revealed. Without hesitation, Rourke confronts Fuse. Upon seeing Rourke, Fuse attempts to cover his tracks. 

Fuse: Rourke? What are you doing here?

Rourke: Save it, Fuse. I heard everything. 

Fuse: Listen, Rourke. It's not what it looks like....

It was in that moment that Fuse realized that he had been compromised. Without warning, Fuse pulls out a blaster pistol and attempts to shoot Rourke. Rourke was able to dodge the blaster fire and manages to attack Fuse with his Sledgehammer. During the scuffle, Rourke manages to get the upper hand and knock Fuse to the ground. Soon enough, Callista along with Ryder ad Fuse arrive.

Callista: What's going on here?!

Rourke: Fuse is a traitor! He's been spying on us the whole time!

Upon hearing this, everyone was shocked. Ryder and Archer were hesitant to believe this. 

Ryder: Fuse? Is this true?

Fuse: Of course not! Rourke's lost it! 

Rourke: I saw him talking to a Cyclonian! 

Rourke then lashes out at Fuse. Ryder and Archer restrain Rourke, but not before landing a punch on Fuse. As Fuse was knocked to the ground, a bag falls out of Fuse's pockets. The bag rips, revealing gold coins bearing the Cyclonian insignia. In that moment, Fuse's treachery was revealed. 

Ryder: You son of a bitch....

Fuse: I did what I thought was right. Havelock was a fool. Nobody fights the Cyclonian Empire and wins. 

Ryder: So that justifies you helping the Cyclonians?! 

Fuse: If we kept fighting like this, we would eventually lose and the Cyclonians would turn Terra Skavis to glass! This is a losing fight! 

Callista: Fuse. Was it you? Was it you that led the Cyclonians here? Was it because of you that my father died?

Fuse: It wasn't supposed to be like this, Callista. If Havelock had seen reason, then none of this would've happened. I did what I thought was right. 

Rourke: So you'd rather live your life on your knees than die standing?

Fuse: Freedom don't mean a damn thing when you're dead. I only wanted....

Without warning, Callista pulls out a blaster pistol and executes Fuse by shooting him in the head. As Fuse's lifeless body falls to the ground, Rourke and the others were speechless. 

Callista: The traitor has been dealt with. Let's get moving. We've lingered here long enough. 

With that, Fuse was executed for his collaboration with the Cyclonian Empire. After that, the Resistance then leaves the compromised safehouse and begins making their way to the new safehouse so that they may regroup and plan out their next move in their fight against the Cyclonian Loyalist Government on Terra Skavis.
