That December, the wedding took place.
It was the perfect winter wonderland theme and it looked so beautiful. The scenery was all in place and now all that was needed was the two grooms.
Alec was first to appear. He had a beautifully tailored black tuxedo on top of a crisp white shirt and he also had a dark purple tie that matched with his pocket square.
Around the Chapel, there was yellow, green, pink and red flowers decorating the walls, each colour symbolising something important to both Alec and Magnus. Yellow symbolised happiness, hope and spontaneity. Green symbolised new beginnings and growth. Pink symbolised love, romance, caringness, tenderness, acceptance and calmness. Red symbolised strength, determination, passion and desire.
Magnus appeared once the music started and Maryse was the one walking him down the aisle. She already loved him like he was her own son (and she was constantly congratulating Alec on how wonderful Magnus was and that he was lucky to have him, which he didn't disagree with) so it was just perfect to do it this way around.
Alec effortlessly helped Magnus up onto the platform and smiled lovingly at him.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of Alexander Lightwood and Magnus Bane. If anyone has any objections to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace." The officiant started once the music had quieted down.
No one objected and Alec breathed a silent sigh of relief.
"They have written their own vows. Alexander, if you'd like to go first." The officiant instructed. Alec took a breath before he started speaking.
"Magnus Bane, the first time we met, you were at a low point. We were complete strangers and you allowed me to keep you company for a while. When Lorenzo was sentenced and I asked you to dinner, I didn't know where this was going to go, until we were walking through that park. It was in that hour that I knew you were the one. I know you haven't had the best luck with relationships until we met, but I promise to do my best to help you feel safe. I love you so much, Magnus." Alec explained softly, his eyes not leaving Magnus' as he spoke.
It was Magnus' turn to follow Alec. He decided in that moment to just speak from the heart and tell Alec how he really felt. How this had all been for him, he wouldn't change anything for the world though.
"Alexander Gideon Lightwood. I first met you a month after I was assaulted, I believed that it was my fault the relationship had ended that way. Until I met your sister. She helped me to realise that it wasn't my fault and that I really was the victim. You asked me out after Lorenzo's trial and the fear I felt in my chest was insane, going on a date with someone was terrifying, until you showed me what a real boyfriend should be. With you, I don't feel like I have to justify myself all the time, I don't have to have a reason for everything I do. I feel more loved than I've ever been and most importantly, I feel safe. I am excited to spend the rest of my life with you." Magnus responded, telling Alec what it had been like from his perspective.
"Can we have the ring please?" The officiant questioned in the direction of Catarina and Madzie.
Madzie, Catarina's niece, approached the front and gave the ring to Magnus. This was the moment that mattered. Magnus took it from Madzie and thanked her softly before she went back towards Catarina. Magnus took a deep steadying breath, his hands were shaking slightly as he carefully slid the ring onto Alec's finger.
"Alexander Gideon Lightwood, do you take Magnus Bane to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The officiant asked as soon as Magnus pulled back.
"I do." Alec answered affirmatively, leaving no room for doubts as he smiled lovingly towards Magnus.
"Magnus Bane, do you take Alexander Gideon Lightwood to be your lawfully wedded husband?" The officiant turned to Magnus after Alec's answer. Magnus had no doubt about his answer.
"I do." Magnus answered, feeling butterflies in his belly as soon as he answered the question.
"It gives me great pleasure to pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom." The officiant explained as all their friends clapped happily for them.
Alec wrapped an arm around Magnus' waist and pulled him closer to share their wedding day kiss. Their first kiss as husbands, it was definitely going to take Alec a little while to adapt to calling Magnus his husband. And he could tell people he met that he was married.

The reception was entirely planned by Isabelle and she had compiled the playlist as she had the best music taste. There was champagne and food and music and happy tears. It was a very happy event for everyone.
After about an hour at the reception, 'Don't Give Up On Me' by Andy Grammar came over the loud speaker for Alec and Magnus' first dance as a married couple.
Alec's hand was intertwined with Magnus' as they stepped onto the dance floor. Magnus was smiling like the Cheshire cat as the lyrics of the song hit home. The lyrics were meaningful and reflected a lot on their situation and they imagine it as Magnus talking to Alec asking him not to give up on him.
Magnus considered what his life could have looked like if he hadn't met Alec that day. He might still be being horrifically abused by Lorenzo (he would never have been sentenced if he hadn't gotten help after Catarina suggested it) and he could potentially be in life-threatening trouble. But he's not.
And thanks to Alec, he had been freed and was now blissfully happily married. Thanks to Alec, he was no longer Magnus Bane, he was now Magnus Lightwood.
Alexander Gideon Lightwood really did save his life.
