CHAPTER 4:

FIRST ASSIGNMENT

...

A dark cloud hovered above the two students as they gazed at an old abandoned building. 'What the heck?,' their minds thought as they looked at the dark grim atmosphere surrounded the establishment. Yuuji gripped his head and wailed, feeling disappointed at the trickery. "You liar!" he shouted as he pointed at the smirking white haired man with tears streaming down his cheeks. "This is not even Roppongi!"

"Yeah! You're toying with us country folk," Nobara agreed as she cursed the man.

Satoru laughed and shrugged casually. "Oops?" he said.

Megumi ignored the loud shouting happened behind him and looked up at the large building. "There's a curse here," he murmured, noticing the dark grim feeling surrounded the abandoned building. He frowned and turned his attention to his other teacher for further explanation.

Hitori met his eyes and nodded, smiling slightly at the quick guess given by the older student. "That's right. There's a big cemetery nearby," he said as he pointed towards the direction where the said cemetery is located. "Having that and an abandoned building can cause a curse to appear."

Yuuji stopped his wallowing and stood up beside Megumi to see the said building. "So, these curse would often pop out around graves?" he asked as he glanced between the direction where the cemetery is and the old building in front of them.

"The issue is not the cemetery itself. It's the fact that human often associate the cemetery with fear of death that could lead to curse being born. Don't get it confuse with ghost. Curse is an embodiment of humans' emotions. They are born from anger, fear, sadness and hatred," explained Hitori patiently as he took off one of his earring.

He held the carved earring in his hand and slowly ran his forefinger down the written runes, activating the seal on the carved wood with his curse energy. The runes instantly lit up. Hitori flicked the glowing seal towards the building and watched as it slowly sunk into the ground. He raised two of his fingers in front of him and narrowed his deep orange eyes, released a good amount of curse energy to active the barrier. "Seal Technique: Silver Cage."

A bright silver ray of light suddenly burst from the ground where the seal disappeared and formed a huge cage-like dome, enclosing the three stories building. Satisfied with the amount of energy he put to keep the barrier up, he released his hold on the seal and turned around to see his students. "As I was saying, the combination between the deep fear of death and an abandoned place can be a suitable habitat for the curse to grow and evolve into a higher grade curse."

Yuuji, who gaped in awe at his teacher's sealing technique, shook his head and scowled as he tried to understand the overall meaning behind his teacher's words. "So, it's the same kind of thing happened back at the school?" he asked, referring to the incident happened back at Sendai as he glanced at his friend for confirmation.
