A bit of history about War of the Worlds

War of the Worlds was written by H.G. Wells in 1897. It takes place during 1895 and is from the view of an unnamed narrator who (if I recall) worked for a newspaper company. Reports of flashes of light from Mars are reported one night and 10 days later a massive cylinder in a pit was discovered in the Horsell Common in Woking, England. Eventually the cylinder opened and a creature the size of a bear with octopus like body and a lipless mouth. 3 men tried to make contact but were ultimately disintegrated by a dreaded heat ray. So for a few days no one went into the massive pit but sounds could be heard. The military was called in and troops were keeping an eye on the pit. Soon the first of many massive metal tripods appeared from the pit and destroyed everything with heat rays and black smoke. The military detachment was completely destroyed with little survivors. Soon they made it to the mouth of a river where people were evacuating on steamships. A brave torpedo ram known as Thunderchild made a valiant last stand against the Martians destroying 2 before being sunk by the remaining Martian tripods. The fighting machines rampaged throughout England (including London) for a week before they all stopped for no reason but actually there was a reason... the Martians were dead they had died of disease and illness due to their immune systems not be adapt to the bacteria and viruses of Earth leaving Humanity with fighting machines, dead Martians, Martian equipment, and the red weed that came with the Martians that grew across the countryside.
