Commencing CONNECT...

"Successful CONNECT"

My mind churned and swirled as I was swished out of reality. A friend I once had described it as tearing your soul from you body, while sipping on a cool lemonade and watching a sunset although thats a bit over the top. The only thing I could see was my self and the grey metallic platform which I was standing on.

"Welcome to Nanotech, please select a game."

I select Distinction Online via mental selection. A phenomenon that allows players to focus there minds and think of an action. The computer then reads this action and preforms the outcome. At least thats how my dad used to explain it. I watched the swirling black void and waited. Video games are my life. I can honestly say I have over a 7 years of my life in this VR machine. It started when I was six, as the son of NanoTech's Vice President and divorced father Andrew Harleu I had tons of exposure with VR. It slowly became a way of life!

All my friends disappeared, but my marks held up until around nineth grade. After that all I did was VR gaming. I failed grade ten and dropped out. Suprisingly my parents werent mad, and supported my gaming career after all I was ranked top ten in the world on the game Gizmo Blaster!

Recently, Distinction was announced and I got excited. An open world VR MMORPG game, featuring swords, bows, staffs, classes, food, and a new feature called Specifics. Specifics is a program being tested by the developers. It creates a customized class for every single players. Thats what Im the most excited about most people wont choose this option because theres always a chance of getting a terrible class but sometimes you need o take risks. I studied and studied this game. For hours I worked to decide the best race, class, skills, mounts, potions, levelling patterns, and items from the games Wiki, and a credible source called spamming the game creators with questions until they answer.

Looking down into the dark abyss I studied my VR clothes. I was wearing padded black pants which wrapped around my legs in a fierce hug, a long sleeve black v neck, that was padded around the arms wrists and shoulders, black boots slightly to big with soft insoles that moulded to your feet, white bikers gloves that fit snuggly around my hands, and finally above all that was a hard black carbon fibre substance that fit snugly onto every part of my body slightly limiting my movement but not so much as to cause a problem. All this is done to ensure safe gameplay, again a quote from my father.

Abruptly a wave of rainbow particles appeared in front of my eyes signifying a successful network connection, just as quickly as they came they were gone, replacing some of the churning void with the firmiliar white outline of a bar. Now the worst part, Loading the game. Bright white letters proclaiming the turtle like loading process and a slowly filling loading bar made up my vision.

Loading 10% COMPLETE..
Loading 32% COMPLETE.
Loading 76% COMPLETE...
Loading 99% COMPLETE..
"Ok... Common..." I Muttered, slightly impatient.
Loading 100% COMPLETE!
"Enjoy, Distinction Online!"

"Enter Distinction Online: Accept or Decline"

"Yes!" I quickly selected Accept, and after a few seconds tiny grey dots started to appear, slowly at first but soon there were enough to completely cover my field of view. All the suddenly the pearls morphed into millions of different colours, flashed bright white, then joined together in an arc of blue to create the words "Distinction Online". I was in!

Distinction online isn't available to the public yet, but one thousand of the best mmo players from around the world were selected in a draw. Those chosen got to beta test the game. I was chosen dead last, but defiantly still chosen.

To connect to Distinction Online or any other VR game currently on the market you must use NanoTech. This device allows people from around the world to experience the virtual world with all five senses inside the game through a helmet similar-looking to one used for dirt biking. You can control the world in various ways using thoughts, actions, and speech. Some games even support Full Emersion or Emersion for short. This allows you to be totally drawn into the game, allowing you to experience complete and utter VR.

After a few seconds of buffering the loading screen morphed into pictures of an elf, orc, dwarf, and an undead zombie.

I focused my mind over the elf, and the screen read "Elf - - Racial Bonus: +2 int (intelligence)" in big bold letters while displaying a close up of the elven character. I focused on the orc, dwarf, and undead.

"Orc - - Racial Bonus: +2 str (strength)"
"Dwarf - - Racial Bonus: +2 dmg (damage)"
"Undead - - Racial Bonus: +2 rst (resistance)"

I instantly ruled out Undead because resistance is useful early game but nearly pointless late game when attacks do more damage then you could imagine. After checking my notes and ruling out Orcs and Dwarves, I picked the only remaining option, Elf.

"Elf Selected - - Elves are strong minded individuals who attack gracefully with bow and arrow, or command the very forces of nature with powerful magic! Elves are forces to be reckoned with. Are you sure you want to continue, there will be no chance to chose again?"

"Yes or No?"

After Skimming through my notes I selected yes, I hope that I made the right choice.

"High Elf: High elves are strong willed. They come from the Highland Palace on top of Mount Giladrom and they work to preserve there home land. Will instantly attack all enemies of the light. +2 agility"

"Night Elf: Night elves are worshipers of the dark king Zakandor, they can spend points on Dark Arts and will instantly attack all enemies of the dark. +2 intelligence"

"Dark Elf: Dark Elves are able to summon hordes of the undead to aid them in there travels. Worshippers of the Dark King Zakandor, can spend points on dark arts and will attack all enemies of the dark. +2 Dark Arts

"Red Elf: Red elves are the most common choice. They are friends of all, and are great tanks. They are souly able to equip heavy armour. +4 Strength (Replaces the primary +2 intelligence)"

SPECIFICS CLASS available!

Almost without thought I selected my SPECIFIC's class.

While using NanoTech theres no need to customize your character looks, because the VR system scans you body and sends an "Upgraded" version into the game. My father say that it insures increased self esteam during game play, but I never thought it was needed.

"Character creation finished, would you like to enter the world of Distinction online?"

Hell Yea!

Were about to hit 100 reads Yea!!! My goal for this week was 50 in one day weve doubled it!
