Brrrrrtz! Brrrrtz!
I shot up in bed, scrambling to find my phone in the heap of covers.
Brrrrtz!
Ugh! Can I ever rest for just one second? Jesus Christ, I thought as I finally found my device. My eyes darted to the time in the top right corner of my screen. 6:42. I was asleep for a good 2 hours before the rude awakening snatched me out my slumber.
Missed Call from Jayda.
Rubbing my eyes gently, I dialed back my best friend while climbing out of bed.
"Hello?", a voice on the line spoke.
A yawn escaped my lips before I started to speak. "Yeah, what's up Jay?".
"Can I sleepover tonight? My ma being an ass again", Jayda responded. I could practically see her rolling her eyes.
I scoffed. "When is she not? Anyways, yeah you can come over. I'll inform Aunt Daphne & you're good to go".
"Thanks J! See you in 20".
I hung up, & walked towards my aunt's door. Lightly knocking, I slowly turned the knob & eased in. Aunt Daphne was watching TV (most likely her soap operas. Man, she's obsessed with those) but she quickly turned her attention to me when I knocked.
"Jayda's having issues with her mom again & asked if she stay over.. is that okay?"
Aunt Daphne smiled wide. "Of course dearie! Jayda's always welcomed, no matter the hour".
"Thanks". I closed back her door & was making my way back to my room just as Vanessa walked out. As soon as we made eye contact, both of us just stood there, waiting for the other to speak. Fed up with the silence, I heaved a sigh & stepped closer, lowering my voice to a volume only she could hear.
"Look, about what I said earlier..", before I could go into depth with my apology, Vanessa put her hand up to stop me.
"No need to apologize. You're only looking out for me & I understand that. But not everything we do is bad Jas. It's just a party. Nothing's going to happen".
I scratched my neck. "You don't know that Vanessa. Anything can happen out there, & you know that. Hell, you've experienced it".
Nessa put her hand on my shoulder & looked me dead in my eyes. "Read my lips, I'm. Going. To. That. Party".
I sucked my teeth & smirked. There was no use arguing with her. Everything I say goes in one ear & through the next. "Okay".
Vanessa patted my shoulder & smiled before walking into the bathroom.
God, she irks my nerves sometimes. She needs to understand I'm telling her this for her own good.
About 15 minutes later, Jayda arrived just as Vanessa finished getting ready. Jayda was bringing her bags to my room when she saw Vanessa through the ajar door. She walked in the room, checking Vanessa out. My sister had on a sleeveless white dress with a dark denim jacket over it, & to compliment it, she wore gold sandals, which of course were accompanied by gold accessories. Her hair was in a bun, & she wore dark red lipstick.
"And where are you going hot stuff?", Jayda joked.
"Richard's party", Vanessa replied with a smirk on her face.
The smile on Jayda's face immediately dropped & was replaced with concern. "Are you serious? Nothing ever goes right at Richard's parties!"
