Long Way Home

Chapter 1

HERS.

"Luna, bring this pasta to Robin, will you?" My mom told me as I was just coming out of my bedroom.

"Mom, I just woke up!" I replied while yawning. "I'll just shower."

"Whatever! Just bring it to her after you shower. It's her daughter's 3rd birthday today."

"Yes, mom!"

"Do you remember when he gave us spaghetti for Skye's birthday?"

"I said, yes mom!!" I laughed. "I will just take a shower!"

"And please be home early." She said. "Your brother's coming home."

"Depends!" I laughed to tease her.

So my name is Luna. Luna Peyton. My mom runs a small coffee shop located beside our house. I help whenever I clock out early from work or if she needs me.

I remember how it started as a tent and then my mom slowly renovated it into a shop and then 2 years after, she started putting tables and chairs outside the store where people can hang out.

And my dad... He passed away since I was 9 years old. I do remember him. But I don't remember everything about him.

We live in the small town of Kiowa. As in Ka-yo-wa. It's small that everyone here knows each other. Our small town is sure to make your stay worthwhile if you visit us.

"Yes, Luna?" Aunt Robin greeted me as she got the pasta from my hand. "Come in!"

"I'll be quick, Aunt Robin! I still have to go to work and drop off Skye at school. Mom just wants to give you some pasta." I replied. "Happy birthday to Allayne!"

"Oh, you are such a sweet lady!" She said as she smiled at me. "I'll come over later to return Laura's tupperware. Drive safely, okay?"

"Thank you, Aunt Robin!" I smiled. "I will see you later!"

I started walking going to my car. My office is 30 minutes away and ever since I got my car, I always drive going there. I always enjoy the sceneries on my way to work. You can see the mountains as if you can touch them already.

And when it's winter, all the mountains are covered in snow. I wouldn't mind seeing that view even if I am stuck in traffic.

When I see that, I know it is going to be a good day.

"Hey, Parker." I said as I gave her a high-five. "Here is your Vanilla Latte with lots of syrup and whip cream on top."

"Thank you for this, Luna!" She replied. "I brought us lunch!"

"Uhuh? And what would that be?"

"I have pork barbecue!" She held her container in front of me.

"Love it!" I replied. "I am so excited to have lunch!!"

We both laughed.

"Hey, girls!" Our boss greeted us.

"Hey, Mallory!"

"There's a team lunch meeting later. I am hoping you two can come?"

Parker and I looked at each other.

"I know, ladies, you brought lunch." Our boss laughed at us. "You can bring it there if you want."

"Yeah..." Parker nodded. "I think I will just do that."

I nodded as well. The quarter's ending already and every quarter-end, we have a meeting to talk about our performance individually and as a team. Only this time, we'll have it over lunch.
