 new beginnings are always hard

-woman

'good morning class' an excited yeji said, jaehyun following attentively behind her.

'good morning yeji' the class replied, smiles on their faces from the sight of hers.

'i'm sure most of you in the class have heard of the new students and are aware 1 of them is joining us here in 4a.' she said authoritatively.

'yes please yeji' the class said, sounding annoyed but still trying to keep up an image.

'as class president, even i haven't met our new classmate, mr.jinyoung said he's coming from the office right now with ms. hyoyeon. please show respect, guys, we don't what an issue this semester, especially when mr.jinyoung comes down for inspection. the class groaned in response though nobody dared to disagree with yeji and everyone in the classroom payed her much respect.

yeji passed through the buddy desks and sat at her seat in the back, opening her math book. jaehyun, who was the vice president and had been annoyingly following her around sat next to her. he did this quite a bit, yeji didn't have a deskmate and jaehyun was quite literally obsessed with sitting next to her. 'so...jae, when will you actually sit with so-hee and quit sitting next to me?' she said, her eyes still focused on the book. 'i was thinking about asking ms.hyoyeon to change my seat, i'm sure you wouldn't mind my dearest yeji? jaehyun then replied trailing his frankly slimy hands around her shoulders. yeji thought about many things, but concluded on keeping her mouth shut. she wasn't much different from anyone in the school. she didn't have an opinion.

then it was quiet, not dead quiet, i wouldn't be able to hear a pin drop, but quiet.

it happened just like that...

mr.jinyoung entered the class, a handsome young man following suit. yeonjun.

not the same yeonjun, we had seen before. this one looked...well...orderly. he looked like he belonged in souel. probably didn't feel that way. jinyoung was well aware his head games didn't work on anyone older than 14 but txt seemed clueless, in fact they were rather euphoric inside, an escape, at least that's what they thought it was. a facade, but a good one? they weren't sure if that made much sense.

everyone in souel has a role and it works out in the grand scheme of things, some are the typical bad boys, the nerds, the social divisions haven't exactly been cleared in souel either, there are poor people and rich people of course. but everyone was perfect, it doesn't make much sense and it didn't make much sense to me at first either but that was souel. nothing made sense but nobody realized it, well maybe they did. they probably did, but once again, no opinion.

- a woman

yeonjun had never been a 'bad boy' he was scared of everything, literally. this was a new, scaringly new yeonjun. his pink dyed hair was now an typical souel hairstyle. it was perfect. his hair was in a friendly cut, his pants weren't tucked in but it made him look better. more perfect. his converse were clean, weren't used. weird.

this was the first time in the 16 minutes and 12 seconds she had been staring at her book, she looked up. she was stunned, simply. he was beautiful. yeji would never admit that, her pride wouldn't let her, understandable. he looked at her too. looking like he was in love with her. yeji gulped, her blood rushing to her face and making her look like a strawberry. jaehyun, who had still not left her side teased her about it, though he side-eyed yeonjun condescendingly. she shifted her eyes, looking back at her book and licking her lips nervously. that's when jinyoung spoke.

'class, class, settle, i'm sure yeji has already given you a brief on yeonjun here but, as you know he's your new student, ms. hyoyeon and i have provided him with a tour of the school but i'd appreciate if any of you helped him if he asks for directions. also jaehyun, can you please leave yeji and go sit next to sohee? i'd like yeonjun to sit there instead.

'i'd like yeonjun to sit there instead'

butterflies. immediate ones. yeji looked up, now facing the brown-haired yeonjun approaching her.

'clean it up'

this baffled yeji. she raised her eyebrows and looked straight into the eyes of a boy she knew. 'what?' she replied, clearly not understanding his statement. 'all the astrology hocus pocus on your table, it's on mine, you realize that' yeonjun replied, a scowl forming on his face. yeji picked up the tarot cards that crossed the line of their desks and picked her bag up from his desk. she still looked lost, like she hadn't nearly processed what was going on. until it hit. this wasn't him. it wasn't who she thought he was. she was convinced. he just had nice eyes.
