After being dropped off by Niall's enraged mother, Harry could finally breathe after the amount of tension built up in that small car. He had learnt very harshly that when you stain a three hundred pound couch with pizza grease and dirt, it is quite hard to have a civilised conversation.
Walking up to the cottage house with welcoming flowers in the window was such a pleasant experience but when the rabid barking was heard, Harry's brisk walk turned to an emergency sprint. Stanley, Mrs Lasen's bull dog was in a physically tiny body but that thing could plough into a tree and make it shake. The teen's slight anxiety towards the aggressive dog had him quickly fumbling with his keys before letting himself in.
"Hey Haz, how'd it go?", Anne smiled as the windchimes swung indicating Harry had opened the oak door. "Normal...but I did make a new friend. His name is Niall and he likes to dance". He smiled at the thought of finally bonding with someone. It had been a long 19 years of nothing but plane trips and letters to keep him company. "Well that was very fast, wasn't it Dez?" Anne gave her husband a knowing look as it was obvious Harry would of got heads turning with his charm and kindness. People mentally getting on their knees to be his friend but this one seemed right for their son.
"Listen Dad...Can I talk to you about something?", Harry announced suddenly which made his father pull his eyes away from the frustrating bills clenched in his worn hands. "What's up?" It was clear that Dez was still preoccupied by the skyrocketing pay but continued to acknowledge his son. "Well, there's this audition that I really wanna go to....It's for a dance show", Harry muttered, worried that the disciplinarian in front of him would shut down the dream before it had even begun.
"Little healthy competition is good", Dez smirked, looking up completely at Harry and finally letting himself forget about the pile of money being thrown out of his bank. Harry's face broke into a genuine smile. "Okay so I go to the audition on Friday with Niall right, then if they like us we'll be able to preform on live TV but we need to rehearse every night and if we win we could become a part of the best show in the world Dad!" The teen was now out of breath from the amount of word vomit that just came out of him but what happened next stopped the words all together.
"Manchester is a tough city...I have to install alarm systems around here. You honestly think I'm gonna let you stay out and rehearse for flipping nights on end during the organised crime period! Negative! When we get to a better area you may be entitled to some nightlife ", Dez commanded, banging his fist on the table at even the thought of Harry disobeying his wishes. "Those organised crime groups are probably all younger than me Dad! And here I am cooped up in this little house at my big age!".
The inhumane growl that left Dez's throat was enough to make Harry shut off his yapping mouth in submission." Don't sass me Harold! No audition! No late night rehearsals! Nothing!",Dez bellowed, finally having enough of the teenager's pleas and stormed out of the living area completely.
...
"Like come on, why does it matter if I read in English...like it's English!", Niall groaned, remembering the scolding he got for the Batman comic book. Shaking his blonde locks, the Irish boy was now onto another topic. Harry occasionally nodded as the conversation continued on but he was mostly in his own space of mind. The faint waffling of the ecstatic voice added to the list of qualities about Niall that Harry had made up in his head. The guy could talk for the world! Just as he was certain Niall was going to shut up, he squealed with perfect pitch at a peculiar lime-green coach showing up outside their school.
"Come on...Wait! You can't where that to the audition!", Niall panicked, pulling on Harry's pricey uniform. "I-I know but my father won't let me go and Mum says we have to let him win this battle", Harry sighed, going awkward like his first introduction. "Do you do everything you're told?". The silence from the taller lad proved Niall's suspicions. Harry did do everything that was asked of him. "Damn it", Niall snapped to himself, freaking out slightly as the bus was mostly full and it wasn't going to wait forever. "Just go Niall but call me tonight and tell me how it went okay", Harry smiled sadly, looking away as he was sure Niall was pouting at him with those big blue eyes of his.
