Chilton Prep was the school that Alexis Gilmore called home. With all of her extra curricular commitments, she was there more often than she would like to admit. However, when your dream is Yale, you would do anything. The only student who even compared to Lexi was Paris, and if Alexis and Paris weren't best friends, they would surely be enemies. Both killing themselves to get into ivy league schools, both willing to sucker punch someone to be the president of some important Chilton club, they were ruthless. And if you can't beat them, which you can't, join them.
Paris and Alexis were born into wealth. They could easily be lazy spoiled rich kids, but they didn't want to be bottom feeders. They didn't just want what their parents had, they wanted more. They wanted to be the best. That thirst that only a special few have.
Alexis' boyfriend however, was content with his position as a spoiled trust fund baby. Tristan Dugray was never one for hard work, much to his father's dismay.
Alexis truly believed her parents shaped her overachieving tendencies. Her father, Andrew Gilmore, was the golden boy. Married young to his wife Stephanie, who was the golden child of her own nuclear family. They were only 21, but her father always claimed he was just old enough to pop the champagne. Soon after his wedding, and the reveal of his wife's pregnancy only four months later, his sister Lorelei made the announcement that she was also pregnant. At sixteen.
Alexis' father tried to call them up once and awhile. She believed her family still longed for them to come around. They only saw them on Christmas, and the occasional Easter. Alexis wished that she could see them more, her cousin Rory was cool, and their life in that little town was fascinating.
Her parents, and her grandmother, did everything they could to make sure Alexis and Rory were different. However, the only one they truly had the power to influence was Alexis. After all, her father stayed within comfortable reach of his parents. Frequent visits, phone calls, and dinners ensured their control. Emily and Richard were always looming.
Thankfully, Emily enjoyed the presence of Tristan. He put on a good face for suspecting adults in his life, never wavering in his charm. Maybe that was part of what drew Alexis to him, his ability to bend reality in his favor.
All she knew, was that she loved him unconditionally.

Sat around the dinner table you would find a group of Gilmore's, plus one Dugray, munching on the new exotic salad made by Emily's third maid this month.
The only thing making dinner interesting for Alexis was Tristan testing the limits of her father and his sharp eye. Placing his hand on her leg, seeing how long it would stay before her father peered over at them.
"So, Alexis." Emily smiled as she placed her fork down on the table. Tristan whipped his hand away from her leg. Alexis took this as a troubling sign, it meant she was able to have to listen to something her grandmother found important. She knew attending this dinner would have consequences. She put on a polite face. "Your Aunt Lorelei came by today."
"Lore came by?" Her father asked.
"Yes Andrew, could you believe it? Anyways, your cousin Rory, she's been accepted into Chilton. Isn't that exciting?"
Alexis' eyes lit up. "Rory's coming to Chilton?"
"Yes." Emily nodded. "That's not all. Her mother agreed to come to dinner with her every Friday night to repay your grandfather and I for tuition."
Alexis met eyes with her dad. They had both shared an optimism surrounding their upcoming guests. Alexis was beyond excited about getting to know Rory. She could introduce her to her friends, to Tristan. Madeline and Louise would get a kick out of a small town girl that's for sure.
"I trust that the two of you will make Rory feel welcome?" Emily questioned.
Alexis nodded. "She'll fit in great. Right Tristan?"
"Yes I'm sure Rory will get along great." The blonde absentmindedly nodded, focusing more on staring at Alexis than listening to Emily.
"Well I, for one, am excited to see more of my little sister. Aren't you Steph?" Andrew smiled.
Stephanie put a hand over her husband's. "That's great, really." Stephanie and Lorelei were never close, mostly because Lorelei always thought Stephanie was the daughter Emily wished she had. Stephanie never thought of it that way, she couldn't never replace Emily's daughter. Emily loved her in a different way, she loved her for completing her perfect family picture. For bringing her pride and joy into this earth, well, one of them. Lorelei brought the other.
Nonetheless, the idea of Rory and Lorelei was a welcomed one in the Gilmore home.
