Chapter 6 Trouble Is Coming

November 2001

The cubs are now 11 months old now which makes them teenagers in lion years and are still learning how to hunt but now they have hunted everything except one animal that even makes Rita shake to her bones the mighty cape buffalo and today the youngsters next test is hunting buffalos but it doesn't come without risk which they learned first hand

( Flashback)

3 months earlier

They lost their brother Luke and 3 cousins to the horns of a dangerous buffalo herd after a failed hunt went horribly wrong were even Luan was injured and nearly killed in the attack by the buffalo, Lincoln saved himself by climbing up a tree with Jasmine following him but before he got to the tree he was tossed 9 feet in the air by an angry bull buffalo but managed to land on his feet and escape and the two were forced to wait for the buffalo to lose interest and move on before climbing back down. The adult lions, Leni included tried to distract and chase off the herd but they were outnumbered and outmuscled by the herd and were forced into a retreat.

But all in all 21 out of the 25 cubs survived the attack with only 4 casualties

Although it was 3 months ago, the incident was still fresh in their minds especially Luan and Lincoln but they had to listen to their elders and follow them on the hunt

Rita, Sasha, Sarah, Isabelle, Leni and the rest of the 17 lionesses get up and follow the buffalo, the cubs who are between 11 months and 18 months old follow from a safe distance, Lugar and his brother prefer to rather stay out of the way and sleep in like so many male lions they'll let the females do the dirty work and show up just in time to eat.

The pride don't have to walk too far to find a buffalo herd who are busy grazing in the thick bush, which is advantage to the lions on top of the fact the herd don't know they are here, The pride gets into position and circles the herd and blocks all escape routes, Rita will initiate the attack  and lines up the herd. It's now a waiting game as they wait and carefully try to select a target without being busted, they know very well what will happen if the buffalo discover them either the herd will retreat or worse turn on their attackers.

Leni jumps up and and charges causing the herd to run for their lives, the other lions make their moves and give chase, Rita is forced to make her choice on the run because of her daughter's blunder, Thankfully she has decided on which buffalo to go for   in time as lions are faster than buffalo and would beat them in a race but buffalo can run for many miles without breaking a sweat while lions are forced to stop running after only 100 metres or risk their small hearts giving out on them

Rita catches up and jumps on a buffalo cow, the other lions split up some help Rita try to wrestle the buffalo on to the ground and shut it up quickly while others are trying to Chase away the rest of the herd or keep them distracted in order to foil a rescue mission or and the youngsters are called in to help with taking the female buffalo down, Luan grabs one of the legs while Lincoln tries to snap her tendons Leni has clamped down on the buffalo's mouth with her own mouth to keep it from summoning the rest of the herd, Sasha tackles the buffalo and takes it down Rita applies a stranglehold on her neck and after 10 long minutes they managed to squeeze the life out of the buffalo and then they began to eat all the lions including Lugar and his brother enjoy their feast but what they don't know is next year will be a hellish one as Lincoln and the rest of the young lions  will have the face the most dangerous threat to any lion's life.......Other lions
