POV: Station 19 - Season 5 Episode 5:

C: "Hey! Um, you're off shift Friday, yes?"

Maya turns around immediately forgetting about the clothes she was looking for, flashing Carina as she walks towards her.

C: "I made the reservation at the Burmese restaurant with -- Ah-ha-ha, no"

M: "My shift doesn't start for half an hour"

Carina has to look away and close Maya's robe to be able to resist.

C: "Okay, I don't have time to get sweaty now. I'm meeting Jack"

Maya disregards everything that Carina says while pulling her closer.

M: "Oh, Jack can wait. Jack is patient. Jack is way less fun than your wife"

Carina covers Maya's mouth.

C: "You need to stop saying Jacks' name while you're naked. Yeah?"

Maya laughs before shutting Carina up with a kiss.

M: "I'm sorry, you wanna give me a spanking?"

The brunette lets out a quiet moan even just thinking about it and is once again dragged in by Maya's lips. She pulls away.

Carina goes to the station to meet up with Jack and talk with Ben. Maya starts her shift by working out with Vic and Travis. She didn't really mean to say it out loud so they all look a bit surprised and confused, even Maya who apologizes before they continue their workout.

Suddenly a massive explosion shakes the entire fire station. The firefighters respond and arrive at a neighborhood in the center of the explosion. They start putting out fires and Captain Aquino, Dean, and Captain Beckett attempt to evacuate the houses. When Dean realizes that one house might have gas building up inside, Captain Aquino opens the door before hearing the message. The explosion throws them into the air, causing multiple wounded including Dean Miller who is unconscious.

Maya and the other firefighters get the injured to the ambulances. Carina helps a woman in labor, only saying goodbye to Maya through exchanged looks as she gets into the ambulance rushing to the hospital. Ben and Jack provide CPR for over 30 minutes but aren't able to save Dean Miller's life.

Silence fills the firetrucks, and the siren becomes distant background noise. Jo meets up with Carina in the ER starting to deliver the baby. As the firefighters arrive at the hospital they all know what happened as soon as they see Ben's expression. While the others look for Vic and Pru Maya goes off alone, still in shock. When Carina is confident that her patient is stable she lets Wilson finish when receiving the news about Miller. She looks around the hospital for her wife who she finally finds in an empty hallway on a lower level.

C: "Maya?"

Maya turns around, red under her eyes from all the tears she'd wiped away. Carina stretches out her arms when she comes closer, letting Maya fall onto her chest as she wraps her in. Tears start streaming down both their cheeks holding onto each other as tight as possible.

M: "Dean is..."

C: "I know, I know..."

M: "I should've--- I could've--"

C: "No Maya, don't do that... There's nothing you could've done"

M: "You don't know that. Maybe if--"

C: "Maya... Stop"

Carina leaned back and cupped Maya's cheeks in her hands, carefully using her thumbs to dry her tears. She knew all too well that nothing good would ever come out of blaming oneself. Nothing can change what had already happened. Maya couldn't even comprehend that one of the best mornings in her life had become one of the worst days. The blonde looks down, just now noticing the blood on her arms and sleeves. She starts to fixate, trying to rub it off, so Carina helps her take off the shirt and gives Maya her hoodie instead. They stop by Carina's locker on their way out, passing the front desk just in time to see Ben and Miranda reunite with Pru making them smile for the first time since the explosion.
