I looked up at the stars, my arms behind my neck. I sighed softly and shut my eyes, trying to keep my cool. "Listen Bruno," I spoke up, breaking the silence. "I understand that you want her back, but you can't have her."

"And why not?" Bruno asked. I could hear him shift beside me on the roof. Again, I sighed and opened my eyes, looking over at the boy; he had wavy hair that reached just past his shoulders and bright blue eyes that reflected the stars. I pushed myself up onto my elbows and raised a brow.

"Well, the first reason would be because she's moved on, and so should you. The second being that-"

"Don't say it," Bruno demanded harshly, cutting me off. I turned away from him, shaking my head. I placed my back flatly against the roof, closing my eyes again.

"Bruno," I started, "You're going to have to come to terms with it one day." I could hear him huff and I continued. "You have to move on now, or else it'll get really bad."

"You don't know a damn thing, Declan," Bruno hissed. "You think you know everything, but you don't. That's why she's not talking to you." My brows creased angrily at his statement. A low growl emitted from somewhere deep within me and I sat up, glaring at him, only for my brows to raise in confusion before falling in anger once more. He was gone.

"Damn it!" I shouted. "Don't you ever come back here, Bruno!" I muttered angrily as I got to my feet. "Try and find someone else who can speak to the dead! And you know what, Jasmine was right to move on!" I finished as I made my way to the ladder that led to the my window, muttering angrily as I climbed down it. I needed to get out of the house now.

See, I can talk to the dead -- spirits, actually. Ones that haven't crossed over to wherever it is they're supposed to go. I have a couple of more 'abilities,' but that's not important right now. I live in Cloud City, Ohio.

Never heard of it? That's probably because you don't have some kind of inhuman power, or haven't yet been discovered. Cloud City is hidden from the average human by a barrier built by the strongest physics. It's kind of like the X-Men thing, but just not as cool.

And I'm pretty sure you're wondering who 'she' is; She is Seattle Riddle. My former childhood friend, and my ex-girlfriend from the eighth grade.

That's where my story began.
