Hey guys! This is a project that I've been working on for a while now. I'm aiming to make it a series of short novels but we'll see how that goes because I've never been really good with short novels that are NOT at least twenty or more chapters. This started out as a side project to distract me from Remember November and clear my head and really turned into something that I'm willing to claim, lol. So please tell me what you think! I know the Introduction is a little boring but these are things you will need to know so bare with me. Chapter One picks up, promise! (:

Special thank you to @breannak for the awesome book cover! (:

Hope you guys like it! Enjoy!

Introduction

We were once human. But now we're not sure. There was a time we were called Americans before the government started experimenting on young children with HIV. The experimenting started soon after the Vietnam war and was a well kept secret until they were successful and decided all Americans should be extraordinary. This is no longer the United States of America. Welcome to Potentem. Under the dictatorship of our President, a Vardi, we entered an era of superhumans. We are known by our classification, divided so we do not mix the genes.

The Visus live in the community of the seeing, called Videns. They all have one blue eye and one green eye and wear blue and green clothing to differentiate themselves from everyone else. Their community rests in the highest mountains. Those with the seeing ability are given enough gear to climb up the mountains themselves and prove they deserve to be there. The government uses them to foresee potential disasters and dangers in our future.

Those with super strength are known as the Forcti and live in the Fortis community that resides in the caves at the base of the mountains. Those with the strong ability are suppose to create their own cave using only a sledgehammer. A friend of my friend created his home in ten minutes; record time. They all have brown or orange eyes and wear matching colors to separate themselves. The government uses them for construction around the communities.

The Moti live in the Motus community up in the trees of the rain forests in tree houses they build using their moving ability. Those who develop this ability much create their own treehouse. They all have sky blue eyes and dark hair from all the rain and wear blue clothes that symbolize their classification. The government uses them to provide the fruits and vegetation we need to survive.

The Scien are those with the knowing ability who live in the towns to the east and west of the castle, in a community called Scientes. Their purple orchid irises match their clothes. Those with this ability are put on a bus after the exam and brought to the castle. The government uses the Scien to monitor the communities in case any decide to stage a rebellion.

The Cae are sent to the castle on a different bus. They are used as security for the castle because no one can see them. Some are sent to their community, Caecus, in the communities to the north and south of the castle to become hunters and supply meat for the other communities. They wear gray or white clothing and have gray eyes that can follow your every move no matter how fast you run or how far you go.

There were six communities, until the sixth rebelled against the President and the Castle, causing the Bloody War. It is illegal to be a member of the Rector community, the Controllers. Those classified in this community are called Nefast, which means forbidden. Early signs of a Nefast is furious red hair and soulless black eyes. No one has tested as a Nefast in five years because those in the community were exterminated after the war. But those who do are immediately imprisoned in the castle and never seen again.

From the moment we are born, we are taken from our parents and placed in a small community for the Unknown, where we learn about and train for each ability and the task that we will have to complete. Our eyes remain a blank white until our fifteenth birthday when they begin to develop into the color that will stain us for the rest of our lives. Then we are escorted on a bus to the Ops exam held in the grand hall at the edge of the community. Security accompanies us on the bus and into the hall, because Nefast are late bloomers and those showing signs will be apprehended before they have the chance to find out what they are.

Our President, a Vardi which is an extremely rare superhuman who tested for more than one ability, and our government live in the Castle at the middle of the nation where they can watch and judge all our fates.

Author's Note: Guys, I know there are similarities but this story has NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING, to do with The Hunger Games or I Am Number Four. Yes, the main character's name is Number 4 but that's briefly for the first chapter, then he goes by Seth (which is one of the points of the story). As for Hunger Games, yes there are communities (just like in Divergent) and there was a rebellion, but the reasons for the rebellions in my book and the rebellion in Hunger Games are COMPLETELY different. Readers will learn why the Rectors rebelled and it will all make sense then. There are no teens fighting teens to the death in this book. I'm not even sure there will be a huge amount of brutality, but there might be in book 2. Please keep an open mind as you read this book and stop comparing it to other works. Yes, there are similarities but I promise this is 100% original and mine. (:
