Chapter 4 of Appointed, finally!!! I know it took me forever to post this, I was just so nervous! Please let me know what you guys think of this chapter because I'm really iffy about it towards the end so leave your opinions and be harsh if you have to. Thanks so much for being paitent with me. (: I hope this chapter meets your standards and you start to like Seth a little more.

Without further ado...Enjoy!

"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty! Up and at 'em!" Liam jerks back the window curtains, allowing the golden sunlight to fill the room. My eyes blink to adjust but continue to stare at the same spot on the ceiling like it has for the past hour.

"Seth? You okay? Did you have a nightmare or something?"

Or something.

"Wanna talk about it?"

I rip my gaze from the ceiling to look at Liam who backs up from the bed with his hands up.

"Guess not," he mumbles.

I close my eyes and remind myself to inhale then exhale. "Sorry. I'm fine."

I highly doubt that. But until you learn to trust me, I'll pretend to believe you.

A corner of my mouth inches upward.

"Breakfast will be served in twenty minutes, then your training begins in the third floor gym. Eight o'clock sharp."

I nod to him and wait for him to leave but he pauses and turns back to look at me.

"By the way, dude, your eyes are pink."

Pink?

He leaves the room and I throw the covers off me. There are faces on the walls, following me as I climb out of bed and walk into the bathroom to splash water onto my face. My head throbs as if I’ve banged it on some hard surface somehow.

What would they all look like if they had survived? Would they have the same rainbow eyes as Kader? Would we all have become one big happy community?

I pause at the sight of flakes of pink in my reflection's eyes. Pink? Is that the color of Vardis? Red would be more appropriate. Every living Vardi is stained with the blood of the hundreds who were murdered at the hands of the Castle. Each and every Government chair is a murderer and as a reward they are given the power to dictate our lives, to choose who dies, who lives and how they will live.

Is this what I will become a part of? A band of murderers?

"Seth, you coming?," Liam calls, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I splash cold water on my face and reach for a towel.

"You didn't fall in, did you? I can't swim!" Liam exclaims in panic.

I roll my eyes at the mirror. If it's possible, there is more pink in my eyes now than there was five seconds ago. Turning away from my reflection, I exit the bathroom before Liam can yell something even more ridiculous.

"You're alive!"

"Shut up," I snap before I can stop myself. He just laughs and nods to the covered platter on the small table at the foot of my bed.

"Breakfast is ready. I would eat light though since we start your training as soon as you're done."

"I'm not hungry."

"What? You barely ate anything last night." He walks to my dresser on the side of the room and begins opening drawers, throwing a clean white shirt and a pair of pants made of strange material at me. I rub my thumb over the thick white line running down each leg.
