CHAPTER 20: For all it takes

After the announcement on the radio we got ready to leave this place. I am well aware that going out there is not the safest option here but we dont till how long this war is going to be but I know for a fact that we cant stay here too because of the supplies gone.

The electricity is cut, the water supply is cut and the limited food and drinking water we have we cant survive here.

We have to take this risk.

Mr. Charles, the twins, Brandon and Alan are wearing 3 layers of clothing on them while the rest of us are wearing 2 layers of clothes on our body. The three of them decided to guard the rest of us therefore the extra layers and because of the shortage of clothes too and we decided to give the twins the extra layers too for more protection.

We are all terrified to go out there on our own without any confirmation about the announcement being accurate. I mean we all know its true but we dont know how old the message is.

I mean for all I know we reach the seaport and we find no one there then we are all doomed.

We each have a weapon in our hands and flashlights, we all have our duffle bags on our back secured tightly find food, water bottles, first aid kit and other necessities.

We have to be careful and cautious in this situation we cant afford to be impulsive here.

As Im tying my hair up and wrapping a bandana around my head and neck covering my face and neck I see from the corner of my eyes Mr. Charles coming in my direction.

I look up at him when he reaches me and stands in front of me as he is a bit tall from me. Im still tying the bandana around my head when he speaks.

Listen to me carefully. You and I are gonna be the eye in this journey. he states with seriousness making me baffle upon hearing.

Im sorry the what now? I ask.

He sighs and I see the seriousness in his eyes when he speaks next.

You heard me correctly. We are going to be the eye in this journey meaning, as I mentioned earlier that I can see the real creatures that take over the human body eating up the human souls and making room for their souls, Im not the only human that can see them; you can see them too. he explains further making my eyes wide.

What? I scream capturing the attention of the rest of the people in the room.

How do you know that?

How can you even be so sure about it? I question him.

To say Im shocked would be an understatement because Im beyond shocked and confuse.

The necklace. he simply states.

Pardon. I speak and raise my brows for him to explain more.

The necklace gives you the sight. he explains further making his point strong when he raise his hand towards his neck and pulls out a chain out of his clothes revealing the same necklace with the same intricate design as of mine.

How is this possible. I gasp and whisper in shock shaking my head side to side.

This necklace gives me the sight. he states.

How do you even have that?  I ask with confusion.

Not important- he starts but I cut him off quickly.

Oh come on for I know we will be dead out there either we reach the seaport or not and you cant keep secrets anymore. I exaggerate a little.

Nobody is dying especially not you. You cant die. You must not die. he speaks with seriousness and to be honest I dont like the sound of that.

What do you mean I cant die Im just mortal human being not some magical immortal being with eternal life. I dismiss his ridiculous sentence.

You wont understand it now, but you will. he states confidently.

 As I said you and I are going to be the eye in this whole journey so be carful and guide them properly. he speaks in sincerity.

We all start to move towards the front door Mr. Charles in the front, Alan behind him, me behind Alan, Jules is behind me, Maia and the twins are in the middle, Owen being behind them and Brandon standing the last guarding us from behind and making sure to block any surprise attacks.

We are all ready.

Remember do not speak loudly, do not breathe loudly and always try to keep your heartbeat normal you understand kids. Mr. Charles explains us the rules once again to which we all give him an understanding nod.

One more thing, remember that we can kill the body but we cant kill the soul.  So we have to be very very careful here. he finishes explaining us the precautions and the possibilities.

With a final nod and a deep breath Mr. Charles opens the door and we all step out of the room and into the armory making no noise and being very careful.

Okay this is it. We are going to fight for our survival now and its not going to be easy. I just pray that that message wasnt old enough and we all reach the seaport safely and we leave this place, this country for good.
