On A Rainy Night

It's drizzling outside.

She finishes up putting on the last step of her night time skincare routine. Sigh, what a day. Her phone is still buzzing and she just knew it must be her work chat group. Some people never understand the concept of after office hours. Ignoring the buzzing, she gets up to make herself a mug of chamomile tea. Just something to help her sleep, hopefully. It's been a long while since the last time she slept at a normal hour. Since moving to South Korea for work five months ago, her insomnia is getting worse. Adjusting to a whole new country and culture on top of work stress keeps her anxiety level at maximum.

She opens the glass door to her balcony and sits on the floor with her mug of chamomile tea. Seoul sure is pretty on rainy nights, she thinks to herself. Time for the rainy nights playlist.

As she puts on her big headphones, drowning the world's noise out, a honey-smooth voice starts singing in her ears.

Byun Baekhyun. She smiles.

She loves his voice. She loves this album he put out right before he went to his military service. Especially this song. Every time it rains, she'd immediately want to listen to this song. She, too, wants to be someone's amusement park. She has always been ready to hold someone's hand and take them through a happy place created just for them. But life seems to not want to make it simple for her. She kept inviting the wrong people in. People who would trash all over her carefully and wholeheartedly crafted wonderland. Oh, well...

She's on the fifth song on her playlist when she realizes sleep won't come to her anytime soon. She looks over at her clock. 22:22. Huh, that's a fun coincidence. She gets up and puts on her oversized hoodie over her big headphones, grabs her keys, her umbrella and walks out of her door. Might as well enjoy this weather while the world around her slows down.

"You sure you don't want to join us, Hyung?" Baekhyun hears a familiar hopeful voice as he starts walking towards his car. He turns around and sees Taeyeong looking at him from their favorite restaurant's entrance. His hands are covering the front of his head in an attempt to protect his vision from the drizzles. "It'll be fun and games. And it's just going to be me and Jaemin so it's chill." He continues.

Baekhyun laughs, "Yah, you still miss me or what? Drinking and getting treated to super tasty meal by your favorite Hyung isn't enough for tonight?" Taeyeong laughs back at his teasing. "Fine, be like that, Hyung. Anyway, if you change your mind just call us. We'll be up all night playing most probably. Since we don't have anything scheduled in the morning." And at that he waves and quickly gets back inside, saving himself from the soft rain.

It's late, it's raining, Baekhyun thinks to himself while putting up the hood of his jacket. Perfect.

He just got back from his military service a week ago and, honestly, he's been missing that place. That one place where he can take off his mask outside and just enjoy being him. Not that he wants to brood or anything. He doesn't think he has ever brood. He cracks himself up at the thought. Being surrounded by friends and joking around is always fun, but sometimes other than being at home and losing himself in games, he likes to visit that place. That hidden corner on the hill, overseeing Seoul's night lights. And when it's this late and raining, his safe corner for sure is even safer - if that's even possible.
