Dream-like state

About 13 hours and a long nap later, I felt the car engine turn off. I opened my eyes and glanced at the car clock, saying it was already 10am. We had driven all night and I had been asleep for most of it. As Kol got out of the car, I took the opportunity to look at the house. It was beautiful, not at all what I was expecting. It was a rather modern looking house, almost contemporary, with lots of glass panes. I could see there was a large lake behind it, and silently wondered if we were near my own lake-house.

"Sleep well, darling?" He asked as he opened my door for me.

"Yeah, thanks. Where are we?" I asked curiously.

"Back in Virginia, for now." For now? What did he mean by that? "This is Claytor Lake, only about two hours outside of Mystic Falls. But I fear our stay here will be cut short for the time being." He said, sadly.

"Why?" I wondered out loud.

"I got a call from my brother while you were asleep. They had a visit from the Salvatore brothers and young Tyler Lockwood shortly after we left. Apparently they were looking for you and tried to get to Caroline to use as leverage. " Kol said in a grim voice, laced with fear. I panicked.

"Caroline? Oh my gosh, is she okay?" I asked, not even concerned for myself.

"She is fine, darling. Nik would never let anything happen to her. The hybrid did manage to bite her, but lucky for Caroline, she already had Nik's blood in her system for some reason, thus making the bite heal immediately. The Salvatore's got away while Elijah and Rebekah subdued the hybrid. They believe they are still in New Orleans for now, but not for long." Kol replied, making me relieved.

"I don't understand why they would try use Caroline to get to me, Stefan loves Caroline like a sister, and Tyler was her boyfriend. It doesn't make any sense." I said, my mind never short of questions.

"We will figure it out, darling, and I will keep you safe." He said, leading me into the master bedroom of the house. It was beautiful. Inside looked very modern, but with a comfortable, homey feel. "Make yourself at home, darling."

I looked at the large king-sized bed and couldn't help from flinging myself on it, feeling the comfort of it. Sleeping in a car hadn't been very comfortable. I looked up to see Kol laughing.

"What? I couldn't help myself! Aren't you tired?" I asked curiously.

"That I am, but I plan to do something I haven't had the luxury of in quite a while." I looked at him questioningly.

"And what would that be?" I asked.

"Taking a shower, darling." He winked at me before taking off his shirt teasingly and walking into the en suite bathroom. I decided to be bold and walk into the bathroom quietly after I heard the water running. I flashed out of my clothes at vampire speed, careful as to not make any sound and stepped into the shower in front of him. He opened his eyes and looked down at me in surprise. "What a lovely surprise." He said before swooping down to kiss me passionately. I realized that I hadn't actually been with him since he had been back from the other side or since he got his magic back and I wondered if it would be different.

"I thought I could use a shower as well, and with all the fuss these days, I figured it would be better to conserve water." I winked at him sensually while I got my hair wet in the waterfall shower.

"Oh yes, helping out the environment is the first thought that came to mind as you walked in." He laughed, smirking. With a flash, he had me lifted up, my legs around his waist. When we were together in limbo, it was amazing, but this was 'blow-your-mind' sex. I had never felt so... connected to someone before. I felt his magic running through my veins as the lights in the house began to flicker. I could hear his slow undead heartbeat, beating in rhythm with my own. It was music to my ears. As we moved together, I could feel my face changing and my fangs dropping. I looked up to see him trying to hide his own vampiric features. I placed my hand behind his head and led his mouth to my neck.

"Drink." I commanded. He looked hesitant at first, trying to hide his thirst, but eventually it took control. I had to admit, on some people the vampire features looked scary, but on Kol, they looked sexy. I noticed his eyes right before he bit into my neck, they had a white ring around the center. I wondered if it was because of being a hybrid. His fangs pierced the skin on top of my carotid, but it didn't hurt. It felt good. He began drawing my blood slowly, as if to savor it. Without even being aware, my fangs had dropped again and I was inching closer to his neck, the drawl of his blood was very enticing. He made no move to move away, and before I knew it, I had bit into him as well. Once again, my body was on fire with the feeling of ecstasy. His blood was so addictive, I had to force myself to stop, and it seemed like he had to do the same to me. I felt my wounds heal as I moaned into him.

After finishing, we decided to actually take a shower. He turned me around and got the soap, beginning to wash my body for me. It was by far the most sensual experience that I had ever had. With my eyes closed, the feel of his hands washing me felt so relaxing and calming.

I decided that I would do the same for him, especially since I had to rub the blood off his back where I had unintentionally scratched trails. I hadn't even known I did it.

"I'm sorry for your back." I said shyly as I scrubbed the area clean softly.

"Don't be sorry, I thoroughly enjoyed it." He said, smirking. After we were both sure we were clean, we got out of the shower and dried off. I didn't really bring many clothes, so I walked over to Kol's closet and grabbed one of his button up shirts. It was long enough to cover everything and I was satisfied. Kol was watching me intently as I had done so, and as I finished, I walked over to him.

"How do I look?" I asked jokingly. He laughed and pulled me in between his legs where he was sitting on the bed.

"I don't think I've seen a more beautiful sight then you wearing only my shirt. Feel free to wear my clothing anytime, darling." He said before kissing me passionately. He pulled me into the bed and held me close.

"Go to sleep, Kol. I know you are exhausted." I said, watching him struggle to keep his eyes open.

"I'm worried that if I fall asleep, this will all be gone and I will be back on the other side." He admitted sadly. I rolled over to look at him.

"This is real, Kol. You are alive and I am here with you. I will still be here when you wake up, I promise." I told him, looking him in the eyes. Sure enough, he was passed out in seconds when he finally closed his eyes. Using all that magic and being awake for so long really wore him down. I decided to take a nap as well, but since I had actually slept before, I didn't sleep long.

I woke up around 2pm and noticed that Kol was still out cold. For a second, I did make sure he was still breathing. I decided to wander around the house. I walked around, looking in all the rooms before landing in the kitchen. I needed some tea. After making a cup of tea, I began to look out the windows down at the lake. It was so beautiful in August.

I could hear Kol waking upstairs and listened as he vamp sped down to the kitchen, almost in a panic. I remembered that he was nervous it was not real and felt bad about not being in bed when he woke up. He approached me from behind and I turned around to look at him, seeing him visually relax at the sight of me.

"When I woke you weren't there." He murmured into my hair as he hugged me.

"I'm sorry, I got curious and started wandering the house." I said honestly.

"It's alright, now that I know you are still here. You had me worried for a second." He said, laughing dryly.

"I'm still here, and I always will be." I said into his bare chest as I breathed in his scent. He smelled of sandalwood and the forest. It was intoxicating.
