Lia's POV
I have gotten all the stuff that happened off my mind for a while so I can concentrate on my school work. I am in my senior year of high school and I really need to pass so I can get some stuff off my back. I have been ignoring Luke at school and all the texts he has sent me. I don't know if I am ready to talk to him yet. My mom has given up on trying to get me to come back home. I missed quite a bit of school after what happened, but I have pulled myself together and am now staying at my aunt's house. She lives near the school so I walk to school everyday. My aunt also knows my mom's situation, that's why she hasn't called her yet.
I am quite grateful to have my aunt on my side because it seems like lately no one has been. I have quit going to parties. That was one sacrifice I had to make if I wanted to stay with my aunt. Which I took because I needed a place to stay. I am doing well in school so far and I have gotten to my last trimester. I can wait for school to be over. I have been saving up for a small apartment, so I don't have to feel like a burden to my aunt.
(Monday morning at school)
"Hey Lia!" Luke yells " Please just let me explain."
I ignore him and keep walking. I can tell he wants to make it right and explain but I'm not ready yet. I don't want to break down in tears in front of him. I want to seem stronger and bigger. I don't want to give off wimp vibes, so I have been ignoring him till I am ready to face him. I walk up to my best friend, Ellie.
"Hey el stupido!" I say to Ellie
Hey, nerd."
"Sooooo, how was your weekend?"
"Eh, my parents were fighting the whole time, so I didn't get any peace and quiet." Ellie explains.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm always here if you need to escape from that you know."
"I know, but I don't wanna be a burden."
" Oh shut up you'll never be a burden." I told her.
Ellie's family has never been picture perfect in a way we both have that in common. She doesn't know that my mom used to abuse me, though. Ellie has always been my go to though. She is always there for me and I am so grateful for that. I enjoy having her company. This weekend we were planning on going to the mall together to get some stuff to celebrate our graduation, since it'll be next week.
Ellie and I walk to class and I slump down into my chair. I dread school, but if I want to get a good job I have to finish school, so I have to go through the suffering. I am in history my least favorite class. The teacher has always had something against me. I think it was because in the beginning of the year I would always skip her class.
(After school)
I walk back to my aunt's house and jump into my car. I decide to finally go to Luke's house. I can't hide from him forever. When I get there I knock on the door and his mother answers, shocked.
"Oh, Lia! I am sorry, but Luke isn't home right now." She tells me
"Oh that's ok i'll come back later when he is here."
"Wait, please come in. I think I need to apologize for not telling you."
"No, it's ok I don't blame you for keeping it a secret."
I walk off and get into my car. Before I drive off I text Luke -Hey, I just stopped by your house and you weren't there. Text back when you can.- Lia I stare at my phone then drive off. I am shaking hoping I didn't make a mistake. Only a few minutes later I got a text back from Luke. -I was with some friends. Do you want to meet up, so we can talk about it?-Luke I texted him back. -Sure, where do you want to meet?-Lia It only takes him a few seconds to respond to my text -Let's meet at the cafe we always go to.-Luke
