~Emma's POV~
The next morning, I woke to my mom shaking me to get up.
"Get up get up get up! Keaton's going to be here any minute!"
I pushed the covers away from my face and sighed. It was way to early.
"Yeah, good thing I woke you. You would NOT want Keaton to see you like that." As she pointed at me and laughed. I cracked a smile on my face and rolled my eyes, I guess my mom was quite the comedian..
I got up and picked a blue and white zebra striped bikini, then dark blue washed pair of short denim jeans and a light blue flowy top. I got changed and brushed my hair to put it in a side braid then ran downstairs.
"Geez Emma, you look like you're a total beach bum." My mom said giggling.
"Yeah mom, I try." I said sarcastically, pulling out a bowl and some cinnamon toast crunch from the cabinet. The sound of my doorbell echoed through the house. I glanced up at my mom, my mouth full of cereal.
"Alright alright I got it!" She said, holding in her laughter because I probably looked really stupid. I quickly chugged my cereal as Keaton walked in the door.
"You ready?" He said to me smiling. He took my board from the side of my house and brought it to the car.
"Alright, bye mom!" I said as I shut the door behind me.
"Boys if she gets hit by a car again she is never aloud to hang out with you ever!" My mom shouted out the window.
"We gotcha!" Said Wes from his jeep.
I got in the back of the jeep and we drove off to the beach.

~Emma's POV~
We unloaded all of our stuff and looked out into the ocean. The waves were like 3-4 feet out there, pretty decent I guess. Wes and Drew took off towards the water and Keaton and I just moved a little closer to the water, but not near it enough for it to touch us.
"Alright, let's start with the basic pop up." He said as he put both of our boards down next to us.
"Okay watch me first," he laid down on the board and pretended to paddle. "So you're paddling, and when you feel the wave take you, put your hands on the side of the board and push up. Make sure your feet swing up to about where your stomach was on the board. Also, make sure you're facing sideways." He said as he demonstrated it so perfectly.
"Alright." I said as I laid down on my board. "Okay paddle...." He spoke softly as I pretended to paddle through the sand. "Okay now here comes the wave..." He said laughing, "and pop up!" I pushed up on the side of my board and then tried to swing my feet to where my stomach was. And epically failed. I lost balance and stumbled, falling backwards. I was pretty much guaranteed to fall smack into the sand until Keaton's arms caught me. He spun me around and looked me right in the eyes. My heart started racing and I got butterflies in my stomach. Something about this moment felt so right, in Keaton's arms. I pulled away.
"Thanks." I felt my face turning pink as i was looking down at the ground.
"No problem," he said laughing, "okay let's try this again."
I laid back down on my board and took a deep breath in. Okay Emma, you can do this. "Here comes the wave..." Keaton started, "and pop up!"
I pushed on my board and flung my feet under and it landed in the perfect spot.
"Woooo!" I shouted. "Yeah! That's it!" Keaton said smiling, "If you can do it on land then you'll be able to do it in the water!"
Keaton came over and placed his hands softly on my waist. "Okay now just remember to bend your knees a bit, it'll help you keep balance when you're going down the face of the wave." Then he moved his hands up towards my shoulders. "And don't keep your arms glued to your side," he said laughing, "if they're out a little it will also help you keep balance."
"Let's go in the water!" I said excitedly, ready to try this out. "Alright, we'll start by letting you take in the white water. That's already when the wave crashes, so you won't have to ride down the face of it." He said, "since it's pretty shallow, you can just run and push yourself into it then pop up. It's a pretty easy ride." Alright, easy enough I thought to myself.
Keaton and I ran towards the water and threw our boards down in the shallow ocean. White water was coming towards us. I ran and pushed myself so the white water caught me and I popped up. The first couple of times I took in the white water I almost lost my balance, but eventually you get used to it and it becomes no big deal.
"This is soooo easy!!!" I shouted as I ran back into the water after I caught a couple more white water waves. I was standing right next to Keaton when he splashed water at me.
"Hey what's that for?!" I splashed water back at him laughing.
"Let's both catch this one!" He said.
"GO!" We both ran and pushed our boards and the white water caught us.
We both popped up, and we were dangerously close to each other.
"Dude, if one of us falls we're both going down!" I said laughing as the white water eased is along.
"Move down on your board!" He shouted. I did what he said and all of a sudden he jumped onto my board too.
I grabbed onto his shoulders so I wouldn't lose balance. This was epic! We both started laughing, and I pushed Keaton off my board.
"Get your own ride!" I said laughing until he flipped my board over and sent me flying into the water. When I broke the surface of the water coming back up for air Keaton was literally dying of laughter.
"You're such an idiot." I said laughing as I splashed him with water. Then Wes came up next to us in the water,
"Hey lovebirds, let's get moving okay the suns going down. You up for a bonfire at the beach?" He asked.
"Yeah, sounds good!" I smiled.
We all ran out of the water and went to put our boards back in the jeep.
"Can someone else please put my board away, we don't want to have a repeat of what happened a couple of days ago." I said giving a little laugh. Keaton looked at me and smiled.
"Day one; learn how to pop up and surf white water, complete!" And high fived me. Hopefully I'd be ready for my competition in a month.
