It's hard to forget. Especially with visible marks as reminders.

Y/N sat in the main room of the church, quietly humming. They couldn't stop humming a song that Calvin used to sing when he was... better.

How can one forget when they're being chased by it? When it's hunting you down?

They couldn't help but keep going, seemingly trapped in the rhythm of notes as they leaned their head back on the pearly white pillar against their back.

What could it take just to get a second of bliss.

They felt warm streaks run down their face as they hugged their knees tightly, still humming. There we a crack in there voice here and there, but otherwise their voice was clear and seamless.

Could it take pain? Could it take loss? Could it take complete emptiness?

They didn't hear the soft clicks of footsteps approaching.

Or could it just take a demon?

" Y/N? What's got you cryin'? " Selever's voice sounded, oddly softer than usual. Y/N opened their eyes slightly, though their glance was interrupted by the sting of tears. They continued humming.

A demon who was willing to help. A demon who felt he needed to protect.

A demon who loved so greatly.

Sel carefully sat down beside the melody-trapped [insert preferred pronoun]. He listened for a few moments.

No matter how much he hides it...

" Whatcha humming? " He asked quietly. That broke Y/N out of the loop.

he really cares.

" Just- a song he sang when he was good... I can't stop... "

He'd do anything to keep you happy and safe.

" ... why don't we hum something happier, eh? "

He knows what's best.

" Like what..? "

Because you help him just by looking at him.

The tall demon started humming [F/S (favorite song)].

So he wants to help you too.

Y/N smiled and leaned against him, softly humming with him as they wiped their tears away.

He truly is,

your guardian demon.
