"We've had a number of potential nannies come through already but Brahms rejected them all, though, they weren't nearly as young, pretty or of a more plump body type such as yourself."
I just nod my head to show I was listening, 'It's nice of her to complement me but I've always been self-conscious about my chubby body.' We walk into a children's room, most likely Brahms' room, and Mrs Heelshire slipped Brahms into some pyjamas, "You'll wake him up at 7:00am each morning and you will dress him."
I nod towards her and keep watching Mrs Heelshire diligently. "You will find his clean clothes behind you." She states as she slips him into bed.
I went to collect the clothes and laid them on the end of his bed before moving towards Brahms, 'I'll just treat him like a real child,' I crouch down beside his bed, making my tone soothing yet slightly louder then my usual one, "Brahms, it's time to wake up." I then set him up on the side of the bed and proceed to undress and dress him into his clean clothes.
Once I was done, I pick him up and hold him onto my hip like I would do for any other child that I would have held. "Excellent job Miss L/n, I'm impressed." She complements while taking Brahms back and starting to lead us to another room that seems to be the study.
She sat Brahms down into a chair, "Brahms has three hours of lessons five days a week, and I like to start things off by reading some poetry. Might I ask, do you know any, Miss L/n?"
"I think I know at least half of the poem Ulysses made by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It has quite a meaningful description of life's struggles." I state with interest, Mrs Heelshire nods in agreement.
"Indeed it does, Tennyson has made quite a few poems depicting life's struggles amongst many others. Now when you are reading to Brahms, you must read in a loud, clear voice." I take the intel she has told me and figured that she would like me to give her as example of my voice, so I made my voice loud and clear, "Yes, of course."
"Excellent," She nods her head in approval, "Next is music appreciation." There was a small clink heard behind us so we looked to see that Brahms had tilted over. "Brahms! You must sit up straight like a good little boy," Mrs Heelshire rushes over to straighten Brahms back up and turns back to me, "Music, Miss L/n. I don't know how Brahms could live without it, it's his world. Of course, he likes it rather louder than I prefer, but... it gives him so much joy I don't dare to take it away from him."
She turns the vinyl player on and classical music starts to blast through the room, it was rather loud so I tried to adjust to it so I wouldn't have to cover my ears in disrespect. After a few more seconds, Mrs Heelshire turns off the music, "Would you like to join us for lunch, Miss L/n?"
I smile kindly towards her, "That would be lovely, thank you."
*Time skip to the dining room*
There was small talk about how the Heelshires were going away on a holiday together which was something that they haven't done since Brahms was born, this gave reason for the nanny. I told them that Brahms would be in safe hands while they were away, which seemed to take some stress off them.
Throughout this discussion, Brahms was seating directly across from me which made me slightly uncomfortable since it felt like he was staring at me, but I was successful in not showing that I was. Once lunch was done, Mrs Heelshire informed me that they don't throw away any food out in their house and that they would put all the leftovers in the freezer.
After explaining that, she let me know that Mr Heelshire would explain the rest of my duties before picking up Brahms and leaving the kitchen. Both Mr Heelshire and I came outside to the garden to continue instructing my duties, "Now, I'll show you the traps. We do our best to keep up with the house, by the way, we don't use the fireplaces anymore." He began picking up traps and dumping the remanence into the trash bag I was holding up.
"If I may ask, why is that?" I was interested in why they wouldn't use the fireplaces anymore cause it tends to get quite cold in England.
"It's a bit of a hazard," He gave me a kind smile, "And regrettably, the last tradesman we had actually, he managed to paint the windows shut." He chuckled at the thought, removing a rat, a huge one might I add, and throw it into the bag. I am not one for rodents so I had a slightly disgusted and scare facial expression when I look at them in the bag.
Mr Heelshire seemed to take in my expression and had a little laugh at my dispense, I look up at him a bit embarrassed but still give a little chuckle. "You don't seem to take a strong liking towards rats do you, well don't worry they're died anyway."
I nod my head, "Not really, but I can deal with them if I most." We continued moving along as Mr Heelshire still chuckles, "Personally, I don't think that all this is necessary, but Mrs Heelshire is convinced that the rats will get into the walls. And Brahms, of course, has never been very fond of animals; he has always been very shy, very timid."
I nod in understanding, looking up at the house only to see Mrs Heelshire looking down at us. 'I should be polite and show that I saw her.' I wave her way and she seemed to hesitantly wave back, returning the greeting. I turn back to Mr Heelshire. "I know how this must look to you, Miss L/n, and to be completely honest I'm not sure how it all came to this. Little by little and then all at once, I suppose," he had this sad expression on his face and I instantly wanted to comfort him in some way, "What I'm trying to say is that whatever it might look like on the outside, our son is here. Do you understand, Miss L/n?"
I nod my head, "Yes sir, I understand." I said with fall compassion.
Mr Heelshire smiles down at me (you are around 5' while he is either 6' or just below it), "Good, that's very good Miss..."
*Time skip to Brahms' bedroom*
"Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
Look upon a little child.
Pity my simplicity.
Suffer me to come to three.
God bless Mummy.
God bless Daddy.
God bless Y/n.
God bless me.
Amen."
I stood a bit away outside the door to give some privacy, but still enough to listen to the couple putting the doll to sleep. They spoke in hush voices to Brahms before Mrs Heelshire turns to look at me, "Could you give us a moment alone to speak to Brahms privately?" I smile at the woman while giving a slight nod, "No problem, ma'am."
She smiles sadly at me as she closes the door, I moved a couple feet away from the door as to not hear or disturb them. I rest my back on the wall and get my sketchbook out to do something to distract myself in the meantime. 'Maybe I should sketch Brahms, or in this case the doll, while I wait.'
A couple minutes go by before the Heelshires come out of the room, I stand up from leaning on the wall and close my sketchbook. "He wants you, Miss L/n. He has chosen you if you'll have him."
'Oh, thank God he's happy with me,' I smile brightly at them, "I'm looking forward to being Brahms' nanny." Mrs Heelshire smiles at me and comes over to hug me tightly, I happily return the hug.
A while after that, everyone was either getting ready for bed or in bed. I was tucking myself in bed after doing some sketches in my book, I was doing a shoulder proportion of the Brahms doll. I used a flashlight I usually use when drawing things at night. 'I wonder how things are going to play out tomorrow? well, we will never know until it comes.' I got comfy in the bed and slowly drift off to sleep.
