"I think that I am going to be seasick," whined a green, paled face looking rob who was grasping the edge of the sailboat as it rocked side by side in the water. It was no surprise due to his vulnerability of having motion sickness, both in the car and on boat.
"Just look towards the horizon and imagine yourself on land," Amelia advised, as Olivia snickered from behind all of them, causing everyone to glare her way. Only after Rob puked his lunch into the water, did Olivia roar out into a fit of laughter.
Zach had been steering the small sailboat that they had rented at the docks, but that did not keep him from speaking out towards the dark haired and forbidding Olivia, "Be nice!" he snapped at her, his brows furrowing, "You have no right to tease him for something he cannot help."
"Oh come on, Zach," she sneered sarcastically, "it's not like he didn't get sick the entire way here. Might as well pick some fun at him to lighten the mood."
"Save it, Olivia," Zach retorted, "One day someone is not going to tolerate your ways, and then we will have our laughs."
Olivia snorted, "Right, but if only they can outsmart me, which is highly unlikely."
The two of them bickered the entire way back to make port, but their words were abruptly cut short when they came to the boardwalk that bordered the docks. Perhaps they stopped fighting because of the way the sun had begun to set, ultimately covering the sky in an array of pink, yellow, and orange, making a breath taking sight above them. Or maybe it was how the boat rocked silently in the tides, when they came closer to the docks. To Olivia, it was neither of these things and only when her green eyes found a pair of brown ones from within the crowds on the boardwalk, did she fall into a stupor.
It was a man; his gaze was hard, his arms bulging with muscles as they crossed against his hard chest. It was a stance that reminded her of her own father when he was either mad or frustrated.
And then his square jaw tensed upon meeting her gaze. His hostile expression matched the other five men, who were with him, all having different characteristics except for the similarity of their strong builds.
It was now apparent to Olivia and her friends that the men were all werewolves from this area.
Upon this realization by her friends, Zach turned the motor back on to make haste. The last thing any of them wanted to do, except for Olivia that is, was to cause tensions with the members of the other pack who lived in the area. Olivia did not look away, though, and for once it was not because of her need to cause trouble. If only her friends had known that.
Olivia's last glimpse of the men, before they rounded the corner to the docks, was of them walking away. And when they made it back to the docks, they were going to let the boat drift into the spot to where it belonged as everyone tied the buoys. But, as they rounded the corner, something caught the eyes of all of them.
There, standing at their dock, was the frightening man and his five companions. None of them had time to react and reverse the boat, and a part of Olivia urged her not to anyway.
As the sailboat made contact with the wooden dock, two of the five burly men jumped aboard and grabbed the ropes from their hands, and tied the boat securely to the dock.
"What's the meaning of this?" Rob asked aloud, overcoming his seasickness. Amelia and Zach watched in shock, but not Olivia because her eyes were not looking at the men who had tied the boat to port. No, she was looking at the one man who had originally caught her attention, the one who obviously held all of the authority. He did not look at her, as much as she wanted him to, almost as if avoiding her gaze.
He made something in her chest whimper in both fear and anticipation and with three words the man stated, "I want her."
And only then did he look at her.
Olivia had never been so terrified in her entire life. She took steps back as she overcame the epiphany of whom this man actually was and why she had become breathless over the very sight of him.
He was her mate.
Olivia did not want a mate. In fact, Olivia never wanted one. So, she did the first thing that came into her mind and dived off the side of the boat.
And the man stripped off his shirt and dove in after her.
