By ten o'clock the next morning, Justin Blake, Titan's secretary, called by 10:20.
"Good morning, Miss McCarran."
"Hi, Mr. Blake."
"Do you have time to talk?"
"Yes."
"Right," he said briskly, then faltered for a second. "Uh... I...How have you been?"
"Great, thank you."
"That's good. Are you still on contraceptives?"
"No."
"Oh." It was obvious that he was confused as to why she had come off them.
Lies tripped off her tongue in a smooth manner that surprised her. "I've been out of London for sometime now. They were difficult to get over there. Besides I had no use for them at the time."
"It's alright. An appointment with Mr. Pitts' doctor will be scheduled today for a repeat prescription."
"Okay."
"After that, you will be meeting with the lawyer and then Janette will take you shopping, and afterwards you have an appointment with the hairdresser, followed by appointment at the nails and wax bar."
Suddenly, Malora is swamped by the feeling of deja vu. She'd done it before. Definitely. The first time she was naive. Stupid. That first kiss had blown her away, but now she knew... She knew that she was the 'unnecessary, unwanted thrist'. The man who thristed for her also hated her guts.
But then she'd thought it was a romantic adventure. Like that of Julia Roberts in Pretty woman. A romantic dream. A hope that he would be her happy ending. She had jumped in head first, both arms stretched out wide. All she knew about his family was what she and Mika read on the internet. Now she had done her research, sitting by the window and overwhelmed by her grief in Kinlochbervie and she knew a lot, a lot more about the great Pitts family.
They were the 21st century Mecidis, offering patronage to artists, writers, architects, potters and fashion designers. She learned about the houses they donated to people, and the eyewatering amount they have expanded into beneficiaries ranging from charities, hospitals, public libraries, non-profit organizations and archeological digs.
They were everywhere, with their hands in everything, yet Titan was the only one to make Forbes lists amongst his family members.
Malora had also stumbled upon a YouTube about Titan's father. He looked so cold; blue eyes flinty, mouth pressed into a smooth cold line, body rigid. Clad in expensive cashmere coat with glasses that cost more than her lease. His silvered hair made him look like someone's grandfather, but as she watched him she felt a chill go down her spine.
The Pitts were famous and feared. There was even an article that they work with the mafia and had several drug cartel around the world. They were also rumuroed to have a hand in the bomb blast that killed one of their competitors. After a while, Malora gave up.
They were trillionaires and true rulers behind governments and organizations. To be a Pitts meant being a twenty-first century Midas.
"Is it alright if Henry comes to pick you at 11:00 a.m.?" Blake asked.
The state of the house made her feel ashamed because she hadn't lifted a finger since Titan left last night. "No. Just ask him to call me on my mobile when he gets here. I'll come down."
"Alright then. Have nice day, Miss McCarran."
Malora thanked him and ended the call. As she drops the call, Mika's call came through. Her friend sounded tired and worn out.
