Chapter Twenty: He's Just So...

"Wh...What is all this?" Gou stutters pointing to the table.

"It's our date, silly!" Ash chuckles lightly grabbing Gou's hand and leading him to the table.

Ash pulls out a chair and signals Gou to sit down. Gou, quite nervous, sits down on the chair. He's still confused by all this.

"Ash, I don't understand!" Gou complains.

"What is confusing you? You knew we were having our date tonight." Ash explains sitting on the chair opposite.

"Yeah but...you were quiet and rushed out the door this morning and that rude way you answered the phone to me. How was I supposed to know about this?" Gou whines.

"Yeah...well...I needed time to think of what to do so, I wanted to put you off the scent and then I needed to lure you back here once I had decided." Ash admits.

"So...was Lana part of the plan?" Gou asks.

"...Yes! Knowing you, I knew you'd be annoyed all day and because you don't know Alola, you'd go somewhere with a nice view that you'd know, hence the rooftop garden. There, Lana was waiting for you to show up and she planted the seed. Then, you come storming back to the house. Although, I was surprised that you called me first, so, I answered the way I did because...well, actually it was because I panicked since I didn't expect it!" Ash explains with a sly smile.

"You think you know me that well!?" Gou jibes.

"Yeah, pretty much. More or less proved it, didn't I?" Ash laughs.

"You! Prick!" Gou grunts.

"What?" Ash asks.

"You did all this to mess with me! That's not fair. I wasted my entire day feeling like shit and it was all some stupid game to you!" Gou complains.

Ash just looks down, feeling a little ashamed.

"Seriously Ash! That was horrible! I actually can't believe you did this. You played with my feelings!" Gou says with a disgruntled tone.

"I'm sorry, Gou! I didn't mean for you to feel that way. It wasn't my intention. Honestly it wasn't!" Ash admits standing up and walking back over and kneeling next to Gou. "Please! Let's start over!"

Gou just grumbles, making it clear that he's feeling hurt.

"Please!" Ash begs slowly running his fingers up and down Gou's arm.

Gou looks at Ash. Trying not to smile, but clearly enjoying what Ash is doing. Damn, how can he resist those Lillipup eyes.

"Fine..." Gou droans.

"Yes!" Ash responds with a smile.

Ash stands up, walks over to the kitchen and brings over two plates.

"I thought we could have a salad for a starter!" Ash declares.

"Oh, a starter! How fancy!" Gou answers.

"It's a date and a date calls for a 3-course meal!" Ash responds.

Gou looks at his salad. Ash has made a 3-course meal. For him! How...romantic! Gou admits to himself. He can't believe Ash has done this. Ash must really like him. Despite trying to fight it, Gou can't help a smile growing on his face.

Ash places dessert in front of Gou. Gou's eyes sparkle at what sits in front of him.

"Victoria Sponge cake!" Gou cheers.

"I thought you'd like it!" Ash giggles.

The date seems to be successful so far. Gou is actually enjoying it. The food has been amazing, the conversation has been delightful. It's been...nice.

Gou stares at Ash as he's talking. He's only half taking in what Ash is saying. He's distracted by...Ash. (Half) listening to Ash talking excitedly about his previous adventures (Gou asked by the way!), Gou is thinking about what's lead to this moment. Everything that has happened. He can't quite believe that he's on a date with Ash. Although, he's...actually happy about it. He keeps looking at him. Taking in all his facial features. Gou can imagine more times like this. He can actually imagine being with Ash. It's funny though. Gou wasted all that effort trying to ignore how he felt. It made him so unhappy. It made him depressed, and yet, this little moment, makes him feel nice, he feels loved. That's all he ever needed. It's all he ever wanted. He just didn't know that Ash would be the one to cause those feelings.

Ash...

He's just so...amazing!
