Cold hard stone. Surviving off chips and soda until all of their change runs out and they can't keep stealing quarters from people's pockets while they are in P.E. Some days go by in a blur. Others you just can't forget. Once Lucy, a 14 year old girl that used to be in honors classes, drops out to try and get a job, forgets long division and variables, everything goes downhill. Amara can't leave school. Once they were kicked out, Mrs. which is now Ms. Zimmerman, Lucy, and Amara had to go to the bridge that was about 3 blocks away from the school so no one will suspect a thing. Once Amara started going to school with the same outfit everyday, I think they had a pretty good idea of what was happening or at least make fun of her behind her back.
"Is that like, your favorite outfit or something?" A voice calls behind Amara. As she turns around, she rolled her eyes because she knew it was Carley.
"Um...no..." She said, as annoyed as someone could be.
"Then wear something else"
"You have no idea what's going on, do you?"

"Yeah, you don't shower, you don't wash your clothes, and to summarize, you just don't care for hygiene very much do you?" She says with a smirk and a snooty attitude.
"For your information, you did this to me! You made me like this!" Amara's voice got louder, alarming everyone else in the hallway "You made us poor, making us steal food from the school! Because of you, we live in a box under a bridge! My dad is dead! You tore my life apart! Why?! Why would you do this to me?! I did nothing! Absolutely nothing to you!"
"Do you know why?!"
"Um...no obviously I don't!"
"Because, you did the same to me! You made me hate myself! All of the names! All of the looks! Everything!"
"Ok, those were words, you freaking killed my father! My mom is dying and my little sister is hanging by a thread! I had bad days and when people have bad days, they get grumpy and say things that they didn't mean! I hurt your self esteem, but that can be fixed! Can you bring my dad back to life?! No, you can't! You have no excuse!"
Amara turns around whipping her hair in Carley's face and instead of going to class, she goes to the office and signs herself out so she can go take care of her mother, but she gets there, and there she lies, with cold eyes, gray skin, and weak fingers and arms
"Mom! Mommy! No!" She sits there holding her mothers lifeless body in her arms, cradling her as if she were her own child. With tears in her eyes, Amara picks over fifty flowers and lays her mother down with the flowers in her hands, she takes two of her own fingers and close her mothers eye lids respectfully and gives a kiss on the forehead. She runs down to were her little sister goes and begs for change and food, grabs Lucy by the arm and drags her to the bridge. Letting tears fall off of her face, Lucy helps Amara dig yet another grave, make another stone, and help or at least try to get her to chuckle.
Amara and Lucy would survive only by cardboard signs begging for food, and waiting for the very few people who would care enough to give them a slight snack, which to them, is eating like royalty.
