I woke up early in the morning like I always did on every Sunday. Why do I always wake up early in the morning on every Sunday? Well because my mom and I like to cook for my dad when he's at the Mayor hall and he's had a long day.

So I got out of bed and I put on my usual outfit which was just a plain t-shirt and some leggings. I then put my hair up into a ponytail and I walked out of my room and went downstairs and saw my mom looking in the cookbook for a recipe to fix for dad. We always try to make something different every Sunday, and we also like talking about little things, you know having mom and daughter times.

"Good morning Kayden, why don't you fix yourself something to eat and help me find a recipe." I heard my mom say, I smiled and nodded my head and fixed me a pop tart. While it was cooking in the toaster, mom and I were looking in the cookbook for a recipe.

When we found a recipe that we decided to make, the toaster popped up the pop tart. I grabbed it carefully with a paper towel and I ate it. "It seems we have everything to make this." my mom said with a smile. We're going to make Sous Vide Short Ribs. I've actually seen this recipe before and I've always wanted to make it.

"Kayden, if you would be kind enough to list off the ingredients needed for the recipe." my mom asked me. I nodded my head and I looked at the cookbook.

"The ingredients are beef short ribs, vegetable oil, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder." I listed. My mom then pulled out everything that I listed and she looked at me with a smile. My mom then pulled out the sous vide machine.

"What does it say to preheat it to?" she asked me.

I looked at the cookbook again, "it says to preheat it to 71.0 for 24 minutes." I told her and I saw her preheat the machine and set the timer for 24 minutes.

"What's next honey?" she asked me as she stood beside me.

"It says to sear the ribs in a skillet over high heat until they are nice and brown on all sides for 5 minutes." I told her. She nodded her head.

"Would you like to sear the ribs?" she asked me. My mom trusts me to do this kind of stuff while cooking because she taught me how to cook and she's with me to make sure nothing goes wrong.

I nodded my head and I started searing the ribs over the skillet while being very careful of the high heat. After 5 minutes, I heard my mom tell me to let them cool for a few minutes and then I can season it generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.

Once I saw they were cooled a little bit, I started seasoning the ribs. After I seasoned the ribs, my mom came up behind me and placed the ribs in two zip-lock bags and vacuum-sealed the bags. She then placed the bags in the sous vide machine's warm water bath so it could cook. The ribs have to cook for at least 12 hours, which is fine, because dad sometimes comes home late on Sundays.

Mom set the timer for 4:30 which is exactly 12 hours. We have a high tech timer and when you set a certain time, it translates that time into hours and it will beep when the time is up.

My mom and I finally sat down at the kitchen table and we took glances at each other and saw that we were covered in the ingredients. We started laughing and we got cleaned up. "Why don't you go on up to your room and you can do whatever you want and I will let you know when dinner is ready and your father's home." my mom told me. I smiled and kissed her cheek and headed up to my room.
