When the atmosphere at Pontypandy Fire Station calmed down as much as it could, it was already evening and the sun was slowly fading away. The team couldn't hide their joy from having Penny again with them, smiling and joking as it used to be before, but Sam noticed something has been tormenting her, because when she looked away sometimes her smile briefly became a nervous bitted lip.
Sam thought what could bother her so much now when everything went back to normal for her. She had her job again, her friends around and she was alive. What was here to be worried about? Sam didn't understand.
But seeing Penny trying to pretend she was as good as before being fired, but seemed so nervous when she thought nobody saw her. She didn't know how much she meant for him and as long as Sam took his courage, Penny wouldn't know anything.Sam woke up from his thoughts when Elvis poked him in his side and showed him invisibly how Penny was going out on the balcony.
"Come on, Sam. Tell her" Elvis assured Sam and pushed him a little to the side of the balcony.
Sam carefully looked by the doorframe only to see Penny leaning on the railing with her head and shoulders lowered down. She was standing with back to the door, so she didn't notice Sam until he came to her and leaned on the railing either.
"Does something happen, Penny?" Sam asked quietly, not looking away from the setting sun.
"Why are you thinking something happened?" Penny looked at Sam surprised.
"Because you looked nervous when we were talking. And you went out as you wanted nobody to follow you" Sam explained.
"You noticed" Penny sighed.
"Penny, maybe you don't know, but you are important for us" Sam assured, encouragely squeezing Penny's hand. "For me" he added shyly, when he felt like his cheeks burned a little.
"What?" Penny blushed as she looked at her best friend in disbelief. What he meant? Did her most secret dream could come true somehow?
"Remember our interrupted talk the day Chief Fire Officer Steele announced we had a new firefighter in our team?" Sam asked a little more confidently when Penny nodded her head. "You know we have been friends since we have started working together here. We talked a lot and we can count on each other no matter what. But..." Sam hesitated, but Penny's shy smile encouraged him to continue and finally take all his courage. "But with a time we began to know each other better and better, I... I noticed...I noticed how..." Sam stuttered. He was most afraid of this moment. What if she rejected him? What if it ruined their friendship for good?
"Sam, don't be afraid, I trust you" she encouraged Sam with a smile.
"How I slowly... alright, fell in love with you" Sam said on one breath, watching how Penny's smile went wide.
"Seriously?" she asked him teasingly. But Sam knew her too well, she only played with him with this question.
"Aren't you mad at me?" He asked, accepting her game.
"I had waited for this moment all this years, so about what I can be mad?" She took a step closer, looking deep into Sam's warm sparkling eyes.
"All this time I thought you don't love me, do you?" Sam asked hesitantly.
"Always" she answered briefly, because it was a moment when their lips met in a kiss. They forgot each other totally. It was all they asked for by this whole years they were in love with each other. Sam took his courage as Penny didn't keep her shyness and as a result they got the answer they wanted and they dream finally came true in the most real way.
They broke away when they heard loud cheers of their friends. They blushed and looked at happy faces. Then Elvis and Arnold came to talk woth Sam and Ellie came to talk with Penny. They didn't notice that Chief Fire Officer Boyce came again until a part of his conversation with Station Officer Steele ran to their ears."We're a real family again like the old days, don't you think, Boyce?" Station Officer Steele told proudly.
"What would you say to a new member of this family?" Chief Fire Officer Boyce asked mischieviously.
"What's this not" It was the answer.
