Search and Rescue

                                                        Few minutes after Asmund's call

Asmund groaned as he came to and found himself laying against the wall closest to the front seats.
"Captain Vega?" Asmund called out to the front but didn't get an answer and he got up, pressing a hand to his side and healing a wound with his healing ability.
He moved around to the front and found Tommy unconscious with a broken arm and Asmund placed a hand on her arm, focusing on his healing ability, and her arm was set back and healed. Asmund sighed in relief and looked back to see Ruth still on the gurney after he had thrown himself on top of her during the second crash.
"Ruth?" he said coming up to her, stepping in her blood, and he placed two fingers on her neck but was unable to find a pulse, "Damn it..."
Asmund rushed over to the baby and shakily placed fingers on the baby's neck. Time seemed to stand still as he focused on finding a pulse and for a moment, he didn't feel anything but then he felt the baby's pulse and he gasped in relief.
"Oh thank goodness." he said and he looked around frantically for a way to sanitize his hands and found the items.
After sanitizing his hands and getting all the necessary items to do a C-section; Asmund stood over Ruth's body and held the scalpel over her womb and took in a deep breath before proceeding with the surgery.
You're going to save this baby... Asmund thought to himself as he worked as fast as he could, You couldn't save the mother, but goddammit...you're going to save her child

TK's mind was rushing with various worst-case scenarios and he couldn't help but shake his leg in anxiety and worry. He shut his eyes as he thought about Asmund and prayed that he was still alive. He didn't know what he would do if his brother was gone from the world as his brother saved his life and he would be forever in Asmund's debt. He also felt hostility towards his father because if Owen hadn't punished Asmund and put him on the EMT service instead of putting him where he belonged in the firefighter team, he wouldn't have been in the ambulance and he wouldn't have been in a wreck now and Owen didn't seem to show any emotion about his own son being in jeopardy.
"We're here." Owen announced and TK opened his eyes to see that they were arriving at a massive crash site with multiple vehicles piled upon each other, "Okay everyone, start checking each car for survivors and make sure they are stable."
TK got out of the truck and got some equipment before he started heading to find Asmund.
"TK, I need you to check these cars." Owen called out and TK grunted in irritation, "I won't say it again, TK."
"I need to find Asmund!" TK exclaimed as he spun towards his father, "Or am I the only one that is worried about his well-being?"
"I need you focused on the victims closer to us." Owen commanded and TK scoffed in frustration, "Look, I know that you're worried about Asmund but your emotions can't control you right now."
"My emotions?!" TK shouted angrily as he stepped towards his father in rage, "What about your emotions, Dad? If you had kept Asmund as a firefighter then he wouldn't be in this mess...it's all your fault!"
Owen looked like he got hit by a truck at TK's remark and Judd rushed up between the both of them before things could escalate even further.
"TK, just check on the people here." Judd said and TK shook his head, "Look, Asmund would want you to make sure everyone else is saved. I'll go find him myself, okay?"
Tears filled TK's eyes as he couldn't bear the thought of Asmund hurt and he sobbed a shaky breath before nodding and Judd clapped him on the shoulder before moving past him.
"Judd..." TK said turning to Judd and Judd stopped to look back at him, "Please bring back my brother."
"You got it, TK." Judd promised nodding and he headed off to find Asmund's ambulance.
Judd ran along the highway, keeping an eye out for the ambulance but had no luck finding it, making Judd groan in frustration.
"Where are you, Asmund?" Judd muttered to himself as he stopped and looked around.
Suddenly a baby's cry pierced through the air, causing Judd's eyes to widen in shock as he spun around to look to the left of him over a small hill and he ran to the edge of the road to see an ambulance laying down below flipped over.
"Asmund!" Judd cried out in fear as he started rushing down the hill when suddenly the back doors of the ambulance blasted open violently and broke off their hinges, laying on the ground, and revealed Tommy climbing out of the ambulance, "Captain Vega!"
"Judd?" Tommy questioned stunned to see the firefighter there, "Why aren't you with your team?"
"Captain Strand gave me permission to come ahead and find you guys." Judd explained as he came up to Tommy, "Are you hurt, Captain Vega?"
"I'm fine." Tommy said as she thought about what happened.
Tommy had been semi-conscious when Asmund had healed her and then saved the child by himself before blasting the ambulance's back doors which had been jammed before Asmund somehow magically blasted them open.
"Where is Asmund?" Judd questioned fearfully and Tommy looked back inside the ambulance as Judd came up next to her and found Asmund sitting against the wall of the ambulance, covered in blood and with a numb look on his face as Ruth's child laid in his arms.
"Asmund, we must go." Tommy said.
Asmund didn't seem to have heard her and Judd looked at Tommy confused as she shook her head back at him.
"He's been like that for a little while now." Tommy told Judd, "I believe that Asmund feels responsible for Ruth's death."
Judd's eyes fell downcast before he looked at Asmund and walked inside of the ambulance towards Asmund.
"Asmund..." he said softly and he saw Asmund twitch slightly at the sound of Judd's voice, "Asmund, it's me...I am here to help you. We need to get the baby to the hospital to make sure they are okay."
"It's a baby girl..." Asmund replied softly and Judd looked down at the baby who was cooing at Asmund, "I...she's all alone in this world."
"She has you." Judd told him as he came next to Asmund a placed a hand on Asmund's shoulder gently, "You saved her and that is good, but we need to get her to the hospital to make sure she will be okay."
Asmund stayed motionless for a moment before nodding and Judd smiled softly before helping Asmund out of the wrecked ambulance and he and Tommy helped Asmund up the hill.
"Wait...Ruth..." Asmund said as he started to go back when Tommy stopped him.
"Hey, I'll go back and wait with Ruth until more help comes along." she assured him, "You go with Judd and make sure that baby girl gets to the hospital."
"I'm sorry..." Asmund said as his voice shook and he looked at Tommy who saw a terrified and broken look in Asmund's eyes, "I'm so sorry..."
"Judd, go." Tommy ordered and Judd nodded before heading back to 126 with Asmund and the baby.
