Today has been horrible. Half yearly exams have started and I have about 5 different exam to do throughout this week and about 4 assignments due around the start of next week. Why do school faculties not communicate with each other about how many assignments they give their students? It's ridiculous how much stress they put on us with their stupid high expectations. I can't wait to finish my HSC (high school certificate- or finals for america) and move on to university. Lord help me I survive that long.

I walk out of calculus which by the way, is my WORST subject. I can't math for the life of me. I just made 'math' a verb. Ha. At least I'm good at English. My dream is to work as an editor for a big magazine in New York. The city that never sleeps. Just like me when I'm up studying all night.

"Jess, how did you do on your calc exam?" My best friend Bethany asks joining me to my car.

"Oh my god, it was so bad, I only just passed, 51%" my eyes widen in emphasis. She chuckles softly and scuffs her shoes along the footpath.

"Are you getting a lift home with me?" I ask her. She nods and stops in front of the passenger door of my car. Once in, she turns on the radio and almost instantly 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' blasts through the speakers creating a bubbly atmosphere.

"With the lights outttttt, it's less dangerous, here we are noooow, entertain ussss!" Our voices yell in sync with Kurt Cobain, which is then followed by both of our giggles echoing with each other.

I pull up outside of Beth's house and give her an awkward hug across the centre console of the car before watching her walk up to her front door, her long, wavy blonde hair swaying as she walked. I start the car back up and head home for guess what? More study. If I want to ace my history exam tomorrow I really need to keep my head in the books. Year 12 is seeming to be terribly difficult.

When I get inside my mother greets me with a huge grin on her face. I raise my eyebrows in query.

"Hello, Jess! How was your day?" I lean in to hug her and she kisses my cheek.

"Oh you know, study, study, exam that I only just passed, lunch and then more study this afternoon, what about you?" I sigh. My mother frowns for a second and then goes back to her prior expression. "Okay mum, what is making you so happy?"

"I met someone!" She exclaims and clasps her hands together with a clap.

"Really?! Who is he? What does he do? How did you meet him?"

I head over to the fridge and pull out some strawberries to snack on.

"Woah woah, one question at a time, honey" my mother chuckles. "His name is Eric, he's a mechanic and I met him at the DIY store when I was looking for some paint supplies"

"Oh my gosh mum, I'm so happy for you, you deserve someone that makes you happy"

"Thank you sweetheart, now go up and finish your studying so you're still my A+ daughter!" Mum points up the stairs making me laugh.

-
"How was imperialism involved in the campaigns of resistance in India 1919?" I read aloud trying to focus with every fibre and God damned cell in my body. For a whole hour I had been studying about India, trying to ignore noise that was going on outside but I just couldn't. God damn it Luke was being so loud.

Luke is my next door neighbour, stereotypical, super attractive badass that has probably slept with the entire school. Don't get me wrong he's a nice guy but he is a scumbag. Even if he can pull of tight skinny jeans better than me...

It's 10 minutes later and I can still hear a bunch of "WOOOOO's", "fuck yeah's" and laughing. I can't take it anymore. I slam my textbook shut, storm over to my window and slide it open before yelling over to Luke's backyard where it looked like him and 3 other guys were playing with fireworks.

"Seriously, Luke, some people actually want a future and are trying to study, for god's sake can you stop being so god damn loud?!"

All 4 boys in which I only know the name of two - Michael and Luke- stop what they're doing and look up in my direction with mouths wide open. Luke's shocked expression is soon replaced with a smirk.

"Oh I'm so sorry, Jemima, we will keep it down" he retorts with attitude. I glare at the blonde but my sights are set on a dark haired boy sitting in a plastic arm chair watching what was going on. He had a little blonde streak at the front of his styled quiff and was wearing a grey tank top and skinny jeans. His biceps were so defined.. Just like his jaw line. Oh no. Stop it Jessica. stop it.

"The name's Jessica you dipshit, now seriously keep it down before I come over there and bash you with my text book!" I slam the window shut and walk over to my bed thinking about the mysterious boy.

Almost immediately after I hear giggling again. I groan and fall into my pillow. Fuck this shit.

I hear a 'ding' sound and reach for my phone, it's from unknown.

"I will try to keep Luke from making so much noise, but when we're in the bedroom, I don't know what I can do ;)"
